OK here's the deal with perks!!!
« on: July 28, 2005, 07:48:25 PM »
Ya wanna know what a perk plane is?

It's any plane that shoots you down over and over again.

In days gone by we used to fly some old beater plane and club baby seals. After they died a few times from the beater what'd you think they'd up in? The beater. We end up rofl for a while then get back in our favorite rides.

Try it! Take any plane. It doesn't matter which one. Go shoot up some dudes at a field. The next thing you know they'll all be up'n in that same old beater. Why? Well darn!!! It's gotta be a fine plane cause it shot me down alot and hey! I can't even get near it, let alone catch it and shoot it!

Now take that same logic and add it to perking laffies and other planes. There's no difference.

If you wanna shoot down laffies or other beaters learn to shoot them down. Don't try and perk them.

nuff said about an old subject :rofl

:rofl   Beaters? You mean planes like the 51D, D-9, La7, and typhoon? Spit IX, 262, and D hog? You've flown almost nothing else in months. Beaters, pulease.  :lol

While I appreciate the response, please take a minute and read again what I wrote.  Look at the time frame I mentioned.

That aside the last time I flew the MA was with a noob fella and I flew 5 or 6 different airplanes including the 163 which you left out.  Im not picky but just like most of the older players that are still flying I, too, have 10 or so favorites. I like all the Hog's, any Spit is fine, You missed the Yak, and 110 I flew them this last tour and I think I was just up in a Pony B. Opps that might be 15 planes. Ok, I might have 15 favorite planes. I don't really keep track :) You're more than welcome to keep track for me and comment from month to month. :rofl

Thanks

You are right, but there is a flaw to what you are saying.  I used to love upping a 202 or a p40 or the like and going into a fight just because I could.  Now it seems that even when I fly a pony or a 109, I have to give people my 6 just to get them to look at me.  If I don't land hits on the overshoot, I may as well wave bye-bye because I won't see them again.

In a slow plane you may as well not even load ammo cus all you will do is dodge BnZ attempts.  I suppose when there are more of you around, it may peak interest and start a fight, but upping one by yourself isn't very much fun unless you like a race which you can't win  =)

The post is about many new flyers attemtping to immitate vets who shoot them down in just about any plane so the value of perk points doesn't mean much.

That said, I have to disagree that it's all hit and run (read bnz). I haven't seen so many Spits of all kinds in the air in a year and C-205's and N1Ki's'. Blue Spit V's, Orange N1kis and dozens of Seafires. Those guys aren't going too far. They came to fight.

So what's changed? Perhaps people are finally starting to fly smarter? Maybe they've learned they don't need to turn fight a C-205 or SpitV to beat them? They just might be using the strengths of the planes they're in against the weaknesses of the plane they're fighting. Wow! Now that's a thought.

Hub mentioned he saw I liked pony's and tiffies and yes, Yak's and Laffies. I personally do like turn fighting Spit's and N1ki's and 38's and/or just about anything else in them.

IMHO there are still all types of people flying all types of planes in the MA using all types of tactics. If some of the guys you run into, in your 205, look at you and say this is gonna be easy because I'm faster and can use that to my advantage then you either change rides or change tactics. Your current  tactic is to show them your tail in hopes of a shot on an overshoot. It doesn't mean its right or wrong. It's just one of many available tactics for you to use. Well, they are just using of many tactics available to them. But to you it might seem wrong if your looking for them to immediately jump in and turn fight you just because you're in a P-40 or whatever.

I find it refreshing to find people are beginning to fight smarter and guess what? They are having a lot of fun doing it. Kewl! Heck, they might even be landing kills too! Go figure.

I heard the CT still does a lot of slow turn fights. But that might be a rumor.  Who knows.

I guess we're fighting in two different parts of the MA then. I haven't seen much running.  Especially from the fields they are trying to capture.

There's always the guy that either auger/eggs or eggs and runs away. That will never change nor will they ever get much better if they don't try new things. But, there's a lot of folks that are more than happy to give people a good fight.

Yea, that phenomenon is interesting.  I've seen it happen to, but it usually only happens with the pure noobs.  With "average" players they'll switch to the "best in class"... either the Spit 5 or La-7.  If you keep killing them, it is La-7 all the way while they wait for help.

That is probably where the "perk the ELgay" movement started.

Yeah, I remember when I flew the p40 for a while, every time I wnet to a field and got a couple of kills, the sky was filled of p40s for the next hour or so.  Silly nubs.  Thats when the perk the p40 threads started. . . .  I think  :rofl :rofl :rofl

They perked the Chog not becuase it was uber, but because the skies were full of them before then. Now that we have a much larger planeset it is impossible for any ride to ever see 45% of the sorties per tour again, BUT, the ElGay population is still too high for my tastes.
