Multi-Frame Scenarios
« on: January 18, 2001, 03:06:00 PM »
<S> everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that soon my team will be meeting to decide what the next large scale scenario will be. We already have some great ideas cookin'.

I want to remind you all that anyone can design a multi-frame scenario, and submit it to me for consideration.

The four most important questions to ask yourself when thinking of a possible scenario, are:

1. Does the planeset support the scenario without substitutions?

2. Does the scenario present a multitude of tactical and strategic options for the Commanding Officers on both sides?

3. Will it be fun?

4. Is there already an exisiting map that can support the scenario(Not too huge of an issue, that's why we have a CM Map making team)?

Now, traditionally we have been looking for historical events to re-create, and that's what our focus will be on. In the future, however, we may try an idea that is not 100% historical. It just depends on the skill of the designer to convince us of the viability of the design.

I'll keep you posted on th next big scenario. We may know within the next two weeks what it will be. In the meantime, if you have something in mind....send it to me at dahlen@home.com

I'm looking forward to the next scenario very much. I had a blast in Afrika Korps.

Well, I hope that we stick with stuff right now that has the "least substitutions" as opposed to novelty.

People are very keen to have an Eastern Front scenario but IMHO we aren't even remotely close to a planeset that wouldn't have an absurd number of substitutions that would really ruin the "Feel" of the scenario.

My favorite of all of them are the CV scenarios but there's no indication that we'll be getting in 1.06 a full US/Japanese early war planeset.

So I support your basic 1944 8th AF Scenario strategic bombing scenario....its what we can do now with the least substitutions. I know it's been done over and over and over again (I remember playing in a couple in Warbirds long before Pyro and HT left) but we have to be mindful of our planeset.

Will need a NW Europe terrain but I think that's a given that someone has or will be working on soon.

In terms of stuff I'd like to design, I think a "Channel Dash" scenario with player-commanded ships, PT boats, Jagdeschwader 26 capping the ships as they move up the channel, and assuming the British didn't bungle their response as much as they did historically, would be loads of fun.

However, we once again don't have the greatest early-mid-war planeset, particularly from the British bomber perspective.

Redwing has a Europe terrain finished at this point. He's waiting for release of the next generation Terrain editor to install ports & CV's.

We have the bombers for it, we have the escorts.  LW could use the 110 but otherwise it's very doable.

Yes Torgo, my feelings exactly about substitutions. Only in the case of extreme need will I allow substitutions in the large scenarios.

As far as the 8th AF scenario that's been done multitudes of times already, don't expect to see an 8th AF vs. LW anytime soon. My guess is that it may not be until our fourth of fifth large scenario. Not that we don't like that classic matchup, but we're looking to cover some more uncharted ground first.

How about 1944 Strategic Bombing from Italy? Could have Co-Belligerent force MC 205s fighting on the Allied Side.

Redwing's terrain has to be used ! it's too cool !

Jihad's Philipinos Terrain might be more suitable with the PAC AC's we have now IMO, and it looks neato too !

We have a pretty microscopic Japanese planeset and again, no evidence right now it gets much bigger in 1.06.

It's really no fun having Ju-88s sub for about a million different Japanese AC. And actually, we're still low on a lot of Japanse fighters, not just bombers and attack.

What we've got the planeset for is Allies vs. Germans, 1944. Somewhere in Europe.
