I blame MTV

I cant help but notice the majority of the younger crowd that post on these boards are so easily influenced. Growing up also with MTV in the late 80s the channel continuously tried to impress views upon those watching.  I guess it wasnt just my parents that I didnt like telling me what to do and think. I hated anyone who tried to make me think their way.

I will suggest to some of those who post here and are growing up in todays society to question everything. Learn from the mistakes of others and look at all sides of arguments. Use this to decide your own opinions of world and personal matters. Choose not to be a drone.

We were just as easily influenced. The difference is that we had far fewer sources for it.

The information that is available to people today far exceeds what we had as children.

It's a different world.

The overwhelming majority of the population, both in the USA and the world are easily influenced.  Whether that influence comes from MTV, from a biased news source, or from a radical cleric, the average person has almost completely lost the ability to think for themselves and draw logical conclusions of their own.

These boards are perfect examples.

The unwillingness to gather and sift as much information as possible coupled with the inability detect patterns in the sea of garbage has something to do with it.  It's not just "kids these days," it's the desire of the people to remain ignorant, all warm and fuzzy like.  Naivete is something to be sought.

"It's not just "kids these days," it's the desire of the people to remain ignorant, all warm and fuzzy like. Naivete is something to be sought."

That comment rings with truth Octavius, and not just regarding modern times.  One of the most common sentiments I hear from senior citizens when talking about times gone by is along the lines of "The world was so much more innocent back then".   It didn't matter whether bad things happened or not, only that nobody knew about it and stuff didn't get publicized like it does now.

As for television, I don't think I'm against MTV in particular so much as I'm against current children's programming in general.  Stuff like Barney is so idiotic and unimaginative that I can't help but believe subjecting kids to that crap will result in making them dumber.

Generally speaking, modern media is far too obsessed with the glorification of youth, though this is less the fault of current youth than the fault of Baby-Boomers who simply refuse to "grow up".

There are times when you would like to 'bust a cap' in "X-to-the-Z Xzibit".  The constant laughing over what appears to be nothing funny.  And the fact his laughing annoys me.  Oh and that he claims to be a rapper but I don't think he has released a CD for awhile.

Don't get me started on emo.......

Im of the belief that it is just the increase in amount of...well everything.

You cant just blame one chanel. Blame the whole idea of prepackaged music media.

Id say all music now sucks.

I was talking to a dude the other day and he asks me what kind of music i like.

I say "punk."

he starts talking about blink 182 and greenday.

Im like, no "punk" like Johnny Cash and Glenn Miller.

Totally went over his head.

I dont really blame MTV specifically for the better part of the population being dumb.  It is mass media in general.

If only "nineteen eighty-four" was mandatory school reading still instead of "bill and randy adopt a son."

Not all of us are wastes of what MTV believes how a real teenager should be. A good number of teenagers and youngns will be filling the ranks of your future military.

Im glad we dont get MTV anymore. As of June this year my cable provider dumped MTV in favor of a channel that ONLY has music 24/7.. no reality shows or other crap. Just music videos. :)

When we got MTV alot of years ago I loved it but i think it has changed alot... or maybe I have.

MTV has changed, as well you as Nilsen:aok   I wish MTV would go back to the music television that it is and not some reality TV BS that it is now.  Oh there is TRL isn't there, hmm you probably only like that if you enjoy rap about ho's, guns, and drugs.  Hey whatever works for you, I say screw MTV, buncha fascists.

MTV is just the hip hop channel now. Just scenes of people dressed up in jewelry with girls and expensive cars, not singing, not even rapping, just talking over some sampled music.

kids have allways been mush heads.

I used to be a biker and we looked kinda like hippies (dirty cloths and long hair) and we were considered as romantic criminals by the hippies for a while (till they caught on to what we really were)

You should have heard the crap they used to tell us... didn't matter where they got it... if it was what they wanted to believe they never even did the slightest research on it.   They used to try to outdo each other on who could make up the biggest whopper and they believed every one of em.   Every U.S. soldier bayoneted vietnamesse babies for instance.
