15-50  mobil one in the Hot Rods and 5-30 mobil one in the Lincoln..  change it about every 5-6 thou...  15-50 mobil one in the BMW r75..

most of my stuff either gets reved  a lot or sits for a week at a time or both.

Some sort of oil for VW's pumpe duse diesel engines for one car,  and Mobil synthetic something for the others.

i'm not sure how much 5.5 quarts weighs but that's how much goes in the jeep every 3 months.

I use 10W30 but heres an interesting side note



I just picked up a working QMS magicolor 2 desklaser printer at a surplus auction for $15. The only thing that was keeping it from printing was the little oil cylinder was empty. I didnt have any special expensive printer oil to fll it up so I dug under the cabinet and filled it up with this

A $4 bottle of Penzoil 20W40 :rofl


Printer works perfectly now.

10w30, 10w40 by accident.  Valvoline by preference but it's not religious or anything.

I have 100,000 mi on dinosaur squeezings and I suspect that if I switched to synthetic I'd spring a bunch of leaks.  It burns zero oil at all over 6000 miles of use, so why change something that works?  The last high mileage car I tried to switch from dino to synthetic oil went from burning zero oil to burning a quart every 2000 miles plus leaking on the garage floor.  Luckily switching back to dino juice "fixed" the leaks and it quit burning oil.  Until I sold the car and the new owner wrecked it the first week.

I did get a bottle of slick-50 for my next oil change, but it's not like it NEEDS it...

Sorry, the low viscosity index fooled me. They only sell 0W-40 and 5W-40 here.

I have run synthetics on my last three personal trucks.  the first one was a 1985 ranger with the 2.8L V-6.  that truck had 550,000 miles on it in 1999 when we gave it to one of our workers to use personally.  it had a transmission replaced once and all the steering parts many times.  aside from carburators and exhaust manifolds nothing was ever changed on the engine.  this particular engine used timing gears as opposed to a timing chain.  that truck is still in service today.  my next truck was also a ranger, a 1991 model with a 2.9L V6.  it was destroyed in an accident in 1999 with 320,000.  the only thing changed on this truck was steering parts.  the current truck is a 1999 toyota tacoma with 260,000.  I just rebuilt the engine because a faulty radiator caused an overheat that warped the head.  when my mechanic disassembled it he said that all the parts showed insignificant wear and could be reused.  I opted for new everything just the same.  the truck consumed no oil at all.  this month I will probably purchase a new truck for myself.  I'm leaning towards the nissan titan with the toyota tundra a close second.  which ever one i select will be on synthetic oil from it's first oil change.  the synthetic oil just does not lose it's lubricating properties and it suspends contaminants much better than regular oil.  IMO it's worth the extra $20.00 per oil change.

I use the same oil but my change interval is longer simply because I don't drive the miles you do. I believe we have similar equipment though. Volvo 660 here, what are you hauling with?

Most of the oil changes I perform is 5W-30, except for vehicles with many miles or trucks,vans, etc. which I usually throw 10W-30 in.  Castrol syntec 10W-30 in my mum's '01 Impala

5W-30 is allways better than 10W-30, no matter what the mileage. They are both as thick in a normal operation temperature. However 5W-30 is not as thick when cold(better lubrication in cold starts) and is more thicker when beyond normal operating temperature(as it has better viscosity index).
