Online problems
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:01:41 PM »
Hi Guys-

I've been having some problems for the last month or two while playing online, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

First, I've been getting this "warp-speed" problem. What happens is that suddenly the game seems to accelerate, and although my instruments show normal readings, I can fly like a sector in 10 seconds or less. If I take off from a base, and point at a nearby enemy base and go to auto-climb, if this bug pops up I've been able to climb to 15-20k, and fly 1 1/2 sectors, in maybe 10-15 seconds, with drop tanks, and only burning a touch of fuel. Instruments show normal, except for altimeter, which is spinning very quickly. Maybe less. The plane is uncontrollable during these episodes, but if I quickly hit auto-pilot, I can ride it out. I can see the other planes icons like usual, except visually I seem to be going over 1000mph. If I have the map up, I can see the map scrolling along. I NEVER get booted during these, although it often causes me to crash. If I'm nose-down when I get hit by this, I can go from 12k to 6 feet under in less than a second. For the last week, I've also been seeing the reverse of this, where my plane seems to hover, even though my instruments show normal.

Next problem is with connection. I have dial-up, and have tried to make all adjustments per skuzzy's post. Major connection "stutters" lasting 10 seconds or so. These are sometimes linked with above problem, but not always. Seem linked to typing and hitting enter, too.  Beacon light turns green, Net Status goes from as perfect as I can imagine, to these huge verticle slashes, then eventually back to good again. I have lost TCP/UDP thing happen EVERY time play, within first 5-10 minutes, but then game continues fine.

I'm a long way from computer literate, but know the basics for the most part. If you need system info let me know, and I can supply it.

AV, and anti-spy scans show clean. I run AH with AV (Norton's) and Firewall disabled.

I will post a film of speed-flight, but don't know how. Can someone tell me please? Can I post if I am on dial-up?

Windows XP Pro
DirectX9c
AMD athlon 3200
2x40G HD
2x512 Corsair RAM
NVidia 5700 Vid card
Audigy sound card.

Please holler if you need more specifics...

I had this same problem last month. I completely unsinstalled and reinstalled AH and the problem went away.

There is likely an easier solution however.

In my case I had been running AH under an Nvidia card, when I installed my Radeon I don't think AH picked up the switch.

I un-installed AHII, and am currently re-downloading the game for a fresh start. Fortunayely I still have a disc for version 3.0, so my download time is just a hair over 300 minutes. Those 5 hours will just FLY by...

Sould do what I used to do when I had dialup and wanted to download a large file.

Start the download before you go to bed and DL it when your sleeping.
Then those 5 hours go by REAL fast.
And if by chance something goes wrong with the download you havent lost anything cause you were sleeping anyway

I usually do that too, DREDIOCK, but I really wanted to be able to play same day...

Good news is re-installing the game seems to be working. Time will tell.
