Analog pitch trim with X-45
« on: July 22, 2005, 11:24:34 AM »
I'm trying to use rotary 1 on my X-45 for pitch trim. I use rotary 2 for rpm and it works perfectly. However the pitch trim doesn't work as it should; when I disconnect auto-trim the trim goes in the middle and moving the rotary doesn't have any effect on the trim position. Any ideas what might be causing this? It worked perfectly on my old machine.

is rotor 1 the big one near your thumb?

I have that as pitch trim, did you calibrate it under AH after you choose it in jstick setup?

Sounds like the rotary control assignment didn't stick in AH setup. I use the one under my thumb for elevator trim with no problem. You might need to unassign it and assign it again.
Easy in-game again.

Thanks for you replies. I've tried to calibrate and assign it multiple times. I've also tried to assign pitch trim to the other rotary, but it doen't work either.

Have you checked and or calibrated with control panel>game controllers? And when you say auto trim you are talking about Combat Trim right?

Yes make sure you have calibrated in windows, in my control panel X axis is rotary switch 2  and the Dial axis is rotary switch 1, and  Z axis is the rudder rocker. I had the most trouble calibrating the rotary switch 2 because it didn't want to calibrate  showing movement both ways from center, I ended up going real slow back and forth several times and seemed to work. Then go to select J/s and select your j/s. In the left pane select your command and then in the right pane select the rotary or axis that you want make the command, then push set input , that is it do all the others the same. Note: if you don't have special commands you can hit set all inputs and your stick will function real well for starters

The rotary calibrates perfectly and I can use it for any other command, like rpm for example. For some reason it just doesn't work with trim.

Tryed in profiler software interface to do something to duplicate your problem but AH resets the rotery to an axis somehow. Oddly enough I can set(much to my surprise) both RPMs and pitch trim to rotary 1 at the same time. But trim function works as long as I'm not in any auto pilot mode or have combat trim on. You may need to check all the available tasks and see if something else is assigned to rotary 1. Know it's a long shot but it beats something corrupted in AH.

The rotary will not work on mine unless I manually take plane off from combat trim, this is unlike the keyboard trim commands that would take plane off from combat trim as soon as you pressed them.

Rotaries will not automatically disable Combat Trim. Turn off Combat Trim and the plane will trim to the current rotary settings. I have one direction on my mouse-pointer hat set to "Toggle Combat Trim" and another to "Display Damage." Since I keep my trim rotary to the max up position all the time, I just whip the hat around before a fight and I'm all set.

FYI to the non-X45 users reading X45 help threads, you cannot calibrate the X45 in Windows.

Still no luck with this issue... When I disable combat trim manually the trim moves to dead center and stays there no matter what.
