TM Elite pedals converted to USB.....
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:27:29 AM »
Just finished them up a few minutes ago and tested them offline.
So far, they work like a charm.

Total cost to convert them......20 bucks.

Went to WalMart a couple weeks ago and picked up a cheapie Saitek stick for my son and his AH2 debut.  He hated the stick, so did I, so I decided it would donate itself to upgrading my pedals.

Haven't finished it up yet, but it looks like when I am done, I will be able to map the X and Y axes to either control the elevator and aileron or rudder trims, or them as separate throttles for the times when I fly the P-38's.  Also ended up with 5 more buttons and another 8 way hat, just need to go back into the Saitek Advanced Programming software and assign all of the new button and pots new jobs to do.

Will add more if anyone is interested.

Yeash, i have a pair of TM pedlas in storage i'd love to be able to use.  have been thinking about a gp to usb adapter thingy (they do have them right?) but  haven't gotten around to it.

is that what you did?  simple?  what did you do exactly to get 'em to work?
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

If you can't get your Elites to work the SIMPED Vario-pro pedals have the same wide stance and swinging motion as the Elite. Pit pricey as they're made in Germany but heck look at how much we spend on sticks and throttles. :)

I'm writing up a summary of what I did, guys, but a quick blunt statement would be this:
I gutted a new Saitek ST290 Pro, moved the rudder control pot to the Elite pedals, made a cable to wire the pot back into the chipset of the ST290, then hooked it all up.
The system thinks I have an ST290 hooked up along with my X45, and I didn't need an adapter.
Took a little bit of desoldering and resoldering the pot connections, and you have to either take digital pics as you are tearing down the donor stick, or make good schematic drawings.
Still working on a panel to mount the extra 6 buttons I have now, and the X and Y axis pots are going to be put to use as different controls.
Having a few minor issues with the pedals, probably gonna have to put in some travel limiters, but overall, they work like I intended.
Alternative I hadn't thought of is to go inside my X45 and wire the pedals into there and get rid of that jiggy rocker switch setup they are made with.
I'll have more info for you by Tuesday evening.

Put your AH2 handle in the subject so I know who ya are and I will be glad to discuss this in more detail.
