Just ordered the DVD's. Been wanting these for a long time. Now all I need is Walter Cronkite's "Twentieth Century".

I first saw VaS when I was up late on Sunday nights trying to get homework done that I had put off all weekend. Haven't seen it in over 30 years. Really looking forward to a marathon when they get here.

RPM,

If you like Victory at Sea, be sure to pick up "The World at War" - its worth it if only for Lawrence Oliviers narration and the theme music. Probably the best documentary on the entire Second World War ever made.

There was one memorable scene (and the music was good) in VaS..

A warship, charging into 30' seas, waves breaking clear back on her bridge.. damno... impressive. As a kid sailing a dingy I'd charge at the breakers outside the breakwater.. was chased by the coast guard more than once. Now, nearly 50 years later, nothin thrills me quite like sailing in big seas, and when the waves break over the bow I always think of that VaS scene and grin like a kid. ;)

Seagoon is right. The World at War is very good, and very interesting because it was made when many of the major players in WW2 were still alive, to recount their stories. Absolutely reccomended.

Anyone know what that song that filth has delightfully shown to us is?  Goldberg commercialized it in wrestling but they play it a lot in war, most WW2, shows.

Was thinking about ordering Victory at See also, you get the extra 25 or whateer they have?

The theme song was essentially a blatant reworking of Claude Debussy's "La Mer" (The Sea) which is one of my favorites. The theme song itself by Richard Rodgers is titled simply "Victory at Sea."

Didn't know it had made it to WWE fame, I stopped watching that way back when Rowdy Roddy was doing interviews in a kilt and Jessie the Body had no political ambitions.

The complete VaS collection was 4 CD's for $19.95 + S&H= $25.99. The World at War is greatness. I used to have it on VHS, but lost it in a move.

Im going to buy it for my dad for his bday coming up.

I remember him recording the series when it aired on cable when I was little. He allowed me to hit the stop and record buttons when they went to commercials.

General Quarters! General Quarters!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Heh, I had all sorts of flashbacks to VaS when I was walking around on the Missouri.  Just being onboard was like stepping into a video.  I'd love to see how much noise those big guns make, just one time.  They have a couple of .50s mounted on the railings, and standing there gripping one I could almost see flak in the air from the 5" guns and tracers flying.

Where can I order that from for that price?  I want to order two sets; one for me, and one for my dad.  We used to watch VaS together when I was a kid.  I also would love to get World at War.  Both great series, no doubt about it.
