Main area connect problem
« on: January 28, 2005, 04:34:28 PM »
OK my brother and I just signed up, we played Aces High years ago, wanted to see what no. 2 was like. He calls from his system at home, me from mine at my home.

We both get into the training, combat, and dueling areas after logging in with no problem and are able to play. BUT when either of us try to enter the main arena, we both get bumped back to the login screen for playing online.  Neither of us has ever been able to get in yet! Someone said online could be our texture settings, but why would that be the problem when we play fine in other areas?

All help would be appreciated!

Uzzi

I've noticed that Norton Firewall will do this for some reason. Disable all of your antivirus and firewall programs before starting AH.

boy, that last is drastic!  Playing aH while totally unprotected by a firewall can get you infected within
hours if not minutes these days.  Try downloading Zonealarm or another free firewall and try playing with that installed.

you have to allow traffic in and out for udp/tcp ports 2000-5000  for ah to run and set it for the MA ip addy ... your set for the other arena's now , ,,, but not for the MA its on its own server and addy

Main Arena Server Address: 216.91.187.39
All other arenas: 216.91.187.38

Actually, as long as you have updated your windows recently, aren't already infected with spy/mal/adware, and aren't running your browser with AH, there's almost no chance of infection.

I had no firewall/AV for six years until I finally got MSBlaster and bought Norton.

The anti-virus programs will effect gameplay more than the firewalls will from what I've read.
Personally I turn off my AVG virus protection but leave my Sygate firewall up and running.

You would use those addresses for setting up your router or firewall. When you hit Online and select the Main arena it will direct you to the correct address.
It's the weekend so be patient, you may not get an official response until Monday.
The HTC staff is not made up of robots, they need time off.
In the mean time, reall all 'Hints and Tips' at the top of this forum and make sure you can do all that you can do on your end.
Might try a Head to Head, H2H, arena and see if you and your brother can get into or start one of those.
Some system and ISP info would possibly help also.
What are your computer specs? Who is your internet provider and how do you connect to it?
Also, a traceroute or pingplot to the MA 216.91.187.39 might show something.

As I said the weird thing is I have 'no' problem whatsoever getting into any of the other areas, plays great, just won't let me in main area. Get's to the point where it should be loading textures like it does when I play in training area for instance, but nothing happens and then it kicks me back to login screen after a wait of about 30 seconds. guess I'll have to wait till I can get some tech help tomorrow. It just makes no sense to me. Not playing thur a router and shut my firewall off, no difference.
Sigh.

It is probably router related, but I have no control over the router I'm behind now. Maybe if I knew specifically what ports would affect MA but not other arenas I could rig something togeather to get online. Any help would be appriciated.

Huh, supposedly my network doesn't block ANY ports. These connection issues are more disconcerting, then.
