Battle of Kuril Islands

Stalin is hell-bent on smashing the Japanese forces to re-take the Kuril Islands for the motherland.  Japanese forces now have multi-front war. American forces are slamming them south, Chinese forces are pushing east, and now the Soviets from the north.

Looks suspiciously like my "Stalin's Surprize" idea. :)

Well done Fork!

You planning to fly for the Japanese in that case?

no doubt he would be OM he just wants the VVS to have a fighting chance.  incidentally the standard La-7 at this time was not the one we have in AH which is probably modelled on the 368 examples that had the more powerful ASH-82FN engined and the three cannon option.  The most common La-7 was the M-82FN engined two cannon version.  This airplane was basically an La-5 with a few more metal parts and some aerodynamical refinements suggested by TsAGI.  The first La-7 variants performed much more like La-5s than the later models.  The later variants with the ASH-82FN engine and three cannon would have probably been posted with the elite "Guards" squadrons.  The later La-9 utilized the same ASH-82FN as did the even later La-11.  these aircraft were armed with 4x23mm cannon and were the first all metal La aircraft.

We had another CM scheduling issue; sorry about that.

In the end, this was a cooperative effort all the way around.  The scenario was Sabre's idea.  Fork decided to run it.  Oldman and Duke implemented it.

Imagine my surprise on finding that there isn't any Kurile map anymore - guess it didn't survive the transition to AH2.  Picked Rangoon because it's in the proper hemisphere and isn't a map we've used recently.  The base ownership is arranged so as to promote quick action, rather than to emulate history (hey, we'll do that if we ever get a real Kurile map).

Many thanks to Duke for actually setting this up, while he was also tending to a sick child.  Remember that the next time you're irritated by the CMs.

It's been a LONG while since we've done this setup, so observations and comments on the plane match will be welcome.
