lots of things depending on year.... 12 bolt rear ends... heavy duty suspension and control arms... sway bars bigger radiator driveshaft.... most of these things could be ordered on small block cars of course but generally weren't   Lower control arms for instance were boxed on big block cars so that a sway bar could be bolted on.  You can't even get a rear sway bar with standard control arms.

By the looks of things... most of what you listed is bolt on. Do you know of any other "more difficult" things?

nope...  you are correct... it is all bolt on stuff and some of it is even outdated.

You can even buy a lot better stuff than the factory heavy duty stuff if you wish.... some is quite expensive tho for not much improvement... take a good 12 bolt posi for example....expect to spend a couple of grand to upgrade your weak open 10 bolt for instance.

just saying... more than just a few or  500 bucks worth of badges and grill and interior stuff...

As you know, I'm not concerned with the badges. I am somewhat interested in what converting a small block to a big block would involve.

The suspension stuff I'm actually willing to deal with just to "modernize" it. The stuff that wouldn't have been as readily apparent are things like the fuel lines and those kind of things. Do you need to also install the vents in the hood to increase airflow? Or were those just cosmetic.

Also... do you know if the steering in these rack and pinion?

vents in some years of chevelles is cosmetic and others it is functional.   10 bolt rears are weak.

none had rack and pinion but very good boxes are available that reduce the number of turns lock to lock.   You can get excellent power steering boxes that are really late model camaro units internally.

OK... last question:

I've heard there's alot of good parts available for these from several companies. Do you have any recomendations for factory type parts and conversion parts?

ok... factory and reproduction parts.... Danchuk... Year one.... Original Parts group..

get their catalogs... they might cost five bucks each (refundable first purchase) and are specific to chevelles... they all also make parts and catalogs that are for other makes..

they all sell high quality parts and their catalogs are gold mines of info... they are thick and huge and have color pics of allmost every part in a chevelle or el camino (and other makes in other cats)

You can probly learn more about your car reading those catalogs than you could by owning a couple of ratty chevells.

Some hot rod parts in there too like the steeting boxes mentioned and improved brakes and susspension.. etc etc etc etc..

Really.... if you care at all about the cars get those catalogs... I read em from cover to cover when I got em.

When I call for parts they go...."Oh... big block 69 elky with 6 speed and 12 bolt right?"

really... you will love em... maybe 40 pages just on interior stuff.

Thanks Lazs, that's exactly what I was looking for. I do the same thing with a couple of 67-72 chevy truck catalogs (LMC and ChevyDuty) as well as a local shop. There's a local chevelle shop too, but it's not by my house (by work instead)... at least it was there 4 years ago.

I used  yearone alot with my GTOs. Them and Ames.

Both great.

Year one is selling a kit to install the guts, from a 2000 era Camaro, into a 60s body, the tranny, engine, computer and suspension.

They sell complere reproduction door panels. All you have to do is put it on.

Great stuff.
