what the new texture memory stat at the top means. How can we use it in understanding what is going on with our video cards?

It doesn't really mean anything as long as you have free memory.  If you run out of memory on your card, it'll whack framerates real bad.  This just makes it easier to tell if that's happening.

Ahh...cool...that will certainly help locate the bottleneck for those people having trouble with frame rate.
