Are there any special procedures to add a SATA drive to your PC?
Just plugged one (Maxtor 120GB 7.2krpm) with the narrow SATA cable to the motherboard (ASUS A8V Deluxe AI series)'s SATA1 connector, and it doesn't show up anywhere, not even in W.XP's (SP2 installed) disk management.

There's a "VIA (something) HDD" mentionned in the BIOS, but other than that it's as if it wasn't there.
It's got that SATA cable and the 5V plugged in, what's missing?

you are probably missing the SATA driver that you have to install right before you format the drives

That's not helping.
It's not the first time this mobo acts up, found a thread on another forum with similar symptoms and their solution is a lot more complicated than just returning it and get a regular IDE.

I have the same but SlI deluxe,

There are TWO sata controllers, I had same issue, until i switched over to the other controller.

Don't confuse SATA with RAID. Modern motherboards should work with SATA out of the box.

RAID requires a driver at Windows installlation time I believe (tho I've never done it.. I prefer to sound knowlegable than actually risk anything

haven't done it for 9 mos. kinda forgot about the raid driver.
