Bizzare Day
« on: August 31, 2005, 09:52:02 PM »
So, I'm having lunch at the local spot with my bud.  We get done about 12:30 and leave, and as I look left to check for traffic, I notice that there is yellow tape across the road.

Now, being the nosey people that we are (7 Years on a Planning Commission,Chamber Pres, and other civic stuff, both he and I do tend to get nosey) we head over to see what's what.

The entire main intersection is cordoned off 1/2 block in all directions, across the intersection, gas station, Walgreens lot, just a huge chunk of area.

I think, hmm, big wreck.   Problem is, no cars, just on the far side of the intersection a mass of fire trucks and police.

So, we do what any person who can get away with crap does, we went in :)

OK, we are looking at the cars and the group of officers across the street, still wondering what's up.   One of the officers I know looks at us, shakes his head and points back behind us, telling us to back off.  About that time, I look over, and I recognize one of the uniforms.

I tell Chuck, hey, see that guy right there?  He says, which one, I say you can't miss him, the one in green.....the Big one in green....that's putting on that Big Green Helmet...padded...with the padded gloves.

He says, what's he doing.   Well, that explains the Van.  Bomb Squad.   Holy Hell says I lol

The guy waddles down half a block to the intersection (which oddly enough is Closer to us than he was to the intersection) and I say to my friend, you know, this might be a good time to move back some.

So, being the smart people we are, I had to take pictures first as he walked to the corner.

Now, I'm thick, but not stupid.   As I am taking pictures, I see the Green Goblin making his way to the item on the ground, and the fire department guys who are Farther away from him than we are, Backing Off.   Clue 1.  Ok, we got it, we left :)   I  had to get back to work, so dropped him off, and went on my merry way, trying to find out what was going on.

Soccer Practice a short time later, and I saw a black ball of smoke rise up.

Guess the SOB was live :/

What a day.  Methinks it's getting a weeee bit closer to the point where I swore I'd never go back to, and keep the arms at "arms length" again.

Still haven't confirmed what went down, but gonna have to find out.

Was a bomb squad on news for awhile at an airport, forgot which one, guy in green armor padding was checking out mystery bag by a gate on tarmac.

ROC - glad the SA was working for you today. It's difficult to play when your parts are on different blocks in a city. When the emergency guys are backing away that is most definitely a hint.

My mom grew up outside of Sacramento, Woodlawn I think.

The smoke was probably from them blowing up whatever it was. I think they do that if it is live or not, just to be safe.

Say the device is in a Box or briefcase, or whatever, and they cant identify it, they usually blow them up in a concrete tube to be on the safe side. If its not a bomb them someones breifcase got blown up!

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Anyone remember the episode of King of the Hill when Hank's Thanksgiving Turkey is mistaken for a bomb and gets blown up?

Yeah, if they are absolutely unsure about it, they'll explode it open to see if there's anything inside of it.
