chevrolet corvette questions
« on: September 08, 2005, 06:04:37 AM »
Just some questions about Corvettes, late 60- to late 70's so the C3 corvettes.

This is a car I will get eventually, I live in Sweden. It won't be this year, or the next or even the next I am quite sure but I am beginning my research anyway and asking questions.

The ones that interest me the most are C3, late 60's and early 70's. Later 70's are also fine and almost as interesting.

What I'd like to know is if anyone know a really good page to find info about these vettes, engines used, engine power, equipment etc etc. Also, anyone have tips of what to look for when buying a Corvette C3 as far as dammages/failures goes? Bad engine, bad steering, rust at what places (I know they are made of fiberglass but the underside as far as rust goes), etc. Basicly anything to watch out for.

Also, what would be good price ranges for different kind of cars.

In Sweden I've found late 60 early 70's from about 17,000 dollars and up. Looking at some US pages most cars range from 30,000 and up which doesn't make much sense as they should be far more common there and thus cheaper.

I understand that the price of course depends on how the car looks and how it performs but a rough estimate.

Also, just a question out of interest although I don't think I would do it...

How much can a "normal" C3 engine be trimmed? I understand the C3's used alot of different engines. Were the differences big?

Another thing, as I am still learning about cars, I seee both tourqe and Hp being used. Some internet sites claim that tourqe is more important as for performance and some claim the HP to be.

What would the difference between a 350hp engine with 400 lbs tourqe and a 350hp engine and 500 lbs tourqe be? (not sure if that is possible but just say it is).

And NO, it will not be the first car I get.

haven't had my lisence for long so haven't bought a car yet, the first one will most likely be a Volvo 240 which I can misstreat and practice on without losing alot of cash.

You can find tonnes of info here: http://www.corvetteforum.com/ Pictures are all over the net, but you can find some there too. You have a lot of Q's in there, but basically for price, 68-73 models are going to be more expensive, as they were more powerful, lighter, and came with steel bumpers, which is more desirable. The most common engine you will find is a small block 350, unless you are looking to spend some cash. Anyway, you should find plenty of usefull info on that site. Good luck in your search, I've owned a couple C3's and they are a blast to drive.

the vettes your seeing here in the states are ussually restored . and or very clean originals . alot of the high $$$ ones will be  loaded up with rare options such as a big block , tri power, two 4 barrels, injection, or factory aluminum parts ... 30k vettes from 62-72 are more of the bottem line cars, the best ones are bringing over 50k these days here.

The above link to Corvette Forum is about the best I found. I owned a 99 C5. Just got rid of it last year. Most fun I ever had driving was driving that Vette everyday.

Best of luck in your quest to own a Vette.
