Is anyone useing a Raid 0 array?  if you are is there enough of a performance boost to justify nukeing my XP install and reinstalling with raid?

i am......now they are only 7200 rpm drives, so they don't boost it like raptors would, but if you have a clean install for now don't change it. there just isn't that much performance gain that is noticable. eventually your windows intall will rot so save it till then
it's the stability gain that i like

I do with 2 sata 7200 drives. The most noticable difference is how quickly you can do a spybot check , or adaware check, load up the AH game and textures etc..

Keep in mind that even if one of your drives goes bad you will lose all your data.

I run 2 rapter 75GB's in RAID 0 for my programs and 2 36GB rapters in a RAID 0 for my system files.

I've found a nice increase in performance during loading of games and prgrams as well as the limited video editing that I do.

The comment that was made about losing all your data is very true though. Backups are always your friend.

you're right about the backups...i had to re-do my raid install 3 weeks after set up(software prob...my fault).so i slaved my 40 gig IDE drive in and put all my driver setup files and  everything i needed to keep on it,re-installed on the SATA, and got up and running in about 45 min. without having to use 1 CD, and now i still use it for backin up tax info and stuff like that, and if i cause another crash, i can boot off the IDE and do whatever i need to recover the SATA

Also you can use ghost to create an exact match of your RAID setup. I bought a 300GB sata drive and do a weekly ghost of my setup. It's setup as a batch program and scheduled to run at night so I never have to worry about it.

i just raided 2 7200 rpm drives and i noticed a decent performance gain in writes , and a less noticable read bump up  aswell. Id say if you have the 2 drives , and you dont have to purchase anyother hardware (raid controller ) go for it , make sure you bench it with the single drive , and then after the raid 0 is installed . ATTO is a decent benching util . MY writes when from around 50 mb/sec to 80mb/sec, my reads went from 30 mb/sec to 45 mb /sec .   38
