Rocket exhaust from the 163...
« on: September 21, 2005, 09:33:46 PM »
Don't flame me if I'm wrong... but when a 163 zooooooms by me, I'm suprised that there is not a visable rocket exhaust.  We see them from RATO packs, but not the 163.

I'm not saying that it would have to stay animated for the same length of time as the real deal... but it may help the rest of us have an idea where the heck they are in a furbal....

Just a thought. :noid

It think 163 version we have in AH  did not leave a trail of smoke as it flew.

This looks like a shot of a prototype 163, but the production aircraft's exhaust should be similar. IIRC the rocket fuel and oxidiser used in the Walther engine produced a lot of very hot steam.

The Mosquito vs. 163 encounter I've read about certainly indicated there was a visible trail from the rocket.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
