2.02 p0 P38G and J problem

I cannot up the P38G and J. I can look at them in hanger and I see other people flying them in the MA. The P38L works fine like it always has.

When I press the "fly" buttons the harddisk starts working, the screen goes completely white, this lasts for a few seconds then I get a standard windows crash/error message. Back to the desktop after that.

I installed 2.02, the hires pack and the latest skin pack.

I've tried deleting the old P38L skins and I've deleted all the P38 files I could find in the "cache" folder. Nothing changed.

I've also set the skin size to 512, without results (I normally use 1024). I tried to uncheck the "preload" buttons in vidsetup and I've played a bit with general video settings. Nothing helped.

Other than that 2.02 works excellent on my system. Even with the new effects it runs smoother on my system than 2.01p6.

My (new) system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 FX53
1Gig mem
BFG Geforce 6800 Ultra @ 450MHz

I will post the full windows crash/error message here when I get the time.

50% and 1 DT, no rockets or bombs and large ammo load.

We can't duplicate this so if you can check out a few things for us, that would help.

Are you using custom sounds or gunsights for these planes?  Have you tried it without loading any ordnance?  Is this happening online or offline or both?

If you look in general discussion, it seems mechanic has the same problem.

Yes, I use custom sounds and sights (Waffle's)

It happens both offline and online, in the same way.

I'm at work now but I'll try what you suggest when I have the time. Do you need the windows error/crash message?

I think I'll start with a fresh install of AH, try it, then add skins, sounds and my settings and see when/if it goes wrong.

That would be great.  Please add those one at time so it can be isolated if one of those is causing the problem for you.

I installed everything step by step and tested after each step. Everything worked. I must've overwritten something last install.

just wondering if using custom sounds creates a problem if the sound editor didnt put new a/c sounds in.

does the AH autoupdate load new sounds into any existing sounds folder or will it fail to do so if it doesnt recognise the soundpack files?

Fink - it'll add add new ones, but I don't think it'll overwrite oldones.....

FWIW, I had this same problem today upgrading to 2.051. 38 G/J and 47N would crash the game on take-off.

Turns out it was the gunsights. Once I defined a gunsight for each everything worked. Not sure why this was happening, but that's what fixed it.
