He 111 was a good and versatile bomber.
Slower than the Ju and a less performer, yes.
But for 1939 it was great. 4000 lbs and faster than it's enemies at the time. It is a must for scenarios, and eventually ToD.
Later on you had 111 seaplanes, tugplanes (?) and they were lobbing V-1's over the North sea in 1940 as well.
And they are a beauty as well ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

SELECTOR,

Are you aware that the Fw200 is worse than the He111 in all ways other than fuel endurance?

I keep seeing people suggest the Fw200 as though it would be a viable bomber in AH.  The pressence of four engines on an aircraft does not automatically mean it is a formitable heavy bomber.  The He111 would be tougher, faster and carry a heavier warload while being defended by as many guns of the same calibre.

The only German bombers that would be competitive in the MA are the Do217, He177 and Ju188.  Of those I think the Ju188 would be the most competitive.  It is faster that the others, reasonably well defended and based on the incredibly durable (as modeled in AH) Ju88.  It also carries a useful warload.

And it looks freaking COOL!

I've got the 72nd Italeri kit on my wish list. No moola yet, though.

Superdud is a hangar queen, and i don't think he would like the competition.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

The Ju-88 might have few mg's, but their placement is excellent;
2 on top with a free firing-range and 2 on the belly which are both 2 excellent positions for a fast bomber

You're wrong on all counts. Carrying a war load the Fw200 is faster than the He111 and carries a bigger load of 4626 lbs. The defensive armament of the Fw200 is much better than that of the He111 with some versions having multiple MG131 mg's and MG151/20 cannons.

The top speed of the Fw200 was 224mph.  The bombload is the same, I'll grant that it isn't worse than the He111, it just isn't better either.  The defensive armament varries depending on the version added, but that is true of the He111 as well.

So, the best you can hope for is an aircraft that is 40mph slower, much more fragile, carries the same warload, has slightly better defensive guns and can fly twice as far.

Or you can ask for something like a Do217, He177 or Ju188 that are actually bombers, not mediocre passenger aircraft pressed into service as bombers.

No version of the He111 could manage more than 205 mph with a bombload. The maximum bombload was 4410 lbs, and apart from a few versions having a fixed MG FF no He111 carried cannons. Nor did any He111 carry MG131's. Only MG15's and 17's. As for durability I highly doubt the He111 could take more damage than the Fw200. So again you're wrong on all counts.

I do however agree that the Fw200 would see little use in the MA, and it would be useless for scenarios.
