Politicaly Correct Lip Service

it was added because at the time our prime enemy was communisim... and they were murerously supressing the church in their sphere's of influence. It was a 'policy' statement.. nothing more.

regardless, it's gotta stop somewhere.

During the course of my lifetime I've been a christian, an atheist and an agnostic.

I've taken the oath, made the pledge more times than i can count in that time. Know what? My dick has not fallen off, the heavens have not opened and no other signs or portends have appeared for my blasphemy in the use of 'under god'.

The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

When did the minority become the majority in this country ??

I think it has more to do with, " who has more free time on there hands to gripe, picket, protest. This morning as I was driving to work I saw a large church group consisting of men, women, and a bunch of children, standing in the median of I20, in Alrington, TX a major highway, holding up abortion signs and protesting obviously. The police were there arresting some and dispersing it, but I only had 1 thought on this... Shouldn't these people be at work and shouldn't there children be in school ? And I started to think about all the people I see on TV holding up signs of protest and I came to the conclusion that 90% of these protestors are either housewives that have nuthin better to do, or just broke, lazy americans that would rather gripe about something than get a job to support there families, but these are the same people that are running our country, they are the voice of the american people because they are the only american people that have the time to stand around all day and get heard, its rediculous. They have turned this country into an episode of Oprah. What are the main issues today, its gay marriage, abortion, and the morning after pill, and now the pledge of allegiance lol...If regular working class americans  not democrats or republicans but ordianry working class ppl  were heard the issues would be different, it would all be about gas prices and cheaper taxes, in short America would no longer be a daytime show meant to entertain people who don't work... sorry for tha rant, when I see stuff like that it just pisses me off soooo bad

And some of them are professionally offended pot-stirrers, who make a living off "continuing to fight for ______". Those types conintually interpret everything in light of their pet issue, to keep their funds rolling in.

And yes, this pattern is used by all sorts of exploiters in teh national eye, including some whose issue is their religion.

My favorite  event recently was Harvard president Lawrence Summers' near miss public hanging for suggesting that it might be interesting to discuss eveidence suggesting that women might have cognitve strengths in different areas than men. He was at a symposium whose entire purpose was exploring new areas of thought -- and he didnt come out for or against the question. he almost lost hsi job, and had to humbly apologize repeatedly. One student protestor's argument was "I didnt feel empowered when I heard what he said."

And this is supposed to be one of the best instituions of higher learning in the world? Sheesh.
Maturity is knowing that I've been an idiot in the past.
Wisdom is realizing I will be an idiot in the future.
Common sense is trying to not be an idiot right now

ripley... I treat all threats against my freedoms seriously.... It seems to me tho that some fear freedom...

they may want the freedom to smoke pot say but want to be regulated (and have everyone else regulated) in every other facet of their lives...

those who would want free speech but want to take away any chance of defending it are insane.

Adding it was the PC act of it's time and removing it would be going back with tradition.

Not quite, it was a response to the so called 'Godless Communists". It was inacted along with 'in God we trust' being adopted as the National Slogan.

But the point is no one is forces to resite the pledge and there is no punishment for not doing so. You can't really say that about not supporting the PC rules in most Campuses today.

Quite accurate there Ice.

The KGB had a name for these people. They called them the "Usefull Idiots".

Most of them on the left are still blissfully indoctrinated. The religious zelots are no different.

"useful idiots"  I like that lol thats great, best way to describe them... just drove by there and I guess the police arrested them all, there all gone now, wtg Arlington police if so... hopefully they get put on a work detail, or are given communitty service so they can see what work is really like. What really was irritating was looking at all the kids that were there, 8 and 9 year old kids standing in the median of a busy highway protesting and holding signs that they have no clue what it is saying... 1st off those parents should be arrested for child endangerment for letting there kids stand in a median of a highway, and then truency for not having them in school... Back in the 70's 80's we had protestors, nobody really cared about them we just called them "stupid hippy's" and everybody scoffed at them, now they are basically running the country, its getting rediculous

That is, unless you listen to NPR's "Left, Right and Center".

Then again, NPR isn't exactly mainstream either.
