FM-2 tips (anyone have any?)
« on: September 22, 2005, 11:01:32 AM »
I love the FM-2 even with its limited weapon loadout.  I think (my
opinion) it's one of the better turners in the game.  The WEP makes up for the loss of 2 guns when compared to the F4F(another opinion of mine).

Anyone got any tips for E management in this thing??

thanks

FM-2 is a mini-monster, I love it. It will turn very well, better than a Spit 9 or Niki, but not quite as well as a Spit 5. The planes that it can not out turn you should use its good flaps and try to get slow to force them out in front of you.

Never use flaps on an FM2. That's my tip. It kicks bellybutton without them, and its flaps aren't the uber super flaps of the later US planes.

If you're in an FM2 and you need flaps you're not flying it right. Once you DO use the flaps you will be dead.

It's a monster in sheeps clothing!

Flaps are a last resort in the FM2. I only use em if I have alt to regain speed with or I'm locked in a 1v1 with no other threats and then only sparingly. YoYos are the key....

Lazs and Sax are the best I've seen in it. It's alot of fun sometimes. Ask them tho, they are the experts.

FM2 is very good in stall fights and slow speed turnfights.

if you're fighting a spit5, make sure you merge lower than him to get the vetical seperation, and merge early enough to surprise him.

unless he is a seasoned spit pilot he will continue to revers with a simple immleman or flat turn. use this first merge to win the fight. a spitfire will often turn to stick stirring when pressured, if he is using the plane as a crutch.

fighting a zeke, use the flaps out full and force the zeke to overshoot. do this by merging, letting him think he will out turn you then reverse the turn and scissor across his sights with the throttle right off, full flaps.  Unless he hits you on the cross over, you can turn back into him and sit there as he watches you stop in mid air, and spray him as he crosses your guns. he will cross your guns for sure unless you stall out, or he knows what you're doing.

against a huricane...well...you're not really gunna win this one unless you're very good/lucky or playing someone not so good/very unlucky.  use the same idea as the zeke and pray he misses imo.

for any other plane you will out turn them no problem, use your sped wisely, when its gone it really is gone.

expect to get alot of assists in MA flying it.

oh...and good luck.

First off Goose sucks

A seasoned pilot will make mincemeat out of the FM-2 most times
irregardless of what thier flying.

In almost all cases--newbie excluded yu gotta win before the third turn.

Any bases above 3000 sea level put it at a disadvantage--keep your E--it can turn with almost anything above 175 IAS--below that most early war will out turn it.

I find that most players who fly it very little are over impressed with its ability.

Lazs kicked my butt so many times in it cause he flew it lots and understood its strengths and weakness--that and he cherry picked.

I fly it cause I'm comfortable with it as I only log 20-30 hrs a tour and my patience level and long flights don't mix.
It's fun and yu can't leave a fight till it's done.

As far as a good ride for newbies , absolutely , for any of the above reasons. My kids fly it all the time and enjoy the game far more than the zoom and run rides.

By the way Goose sucks

Howdy SAX! :rofl

I truly fly the FM2 very little any more. The Hordes are hell on it.
In an I deal situation I'll fly not too near the badguys and turn away knowing at least one will follow sensing an easy kill. Like SAX says, once too slow it's a bit of a dog. But it dives well. given enough alt to dive for E, you can sustain a fight. Gunnery is my savior. Ya gotta hit 1 of those first couple of shots.

OH, and, SAX sucks more!
