I've driven stick for 12 years now never missing a shift. I think the problem is that manual gearboxes are so rare down there that people simply don't know how to use them and end up like that.

I had reverse problems when I bought my first car with an automatic gearbox. Subconciously I pressed clutch when starting the car etc. It was especially bad if I drove our 2nd car with a stick gear in between.

After driving the auto I forget to press clutch while starting the car - and after driving manual I slam my left foot on the brake pedal thinking I have a clutch to press.
