HISTORY / NOTES:
The M24 Chaffee was a light tank used throughout 1944 into the 1970's. This was a light tank, employed by reconnaissance units. However, in the U.S. Army divisions in Japan before the (Korean) war, it was the only type of tank available and all of them were in what was supposed to be the divisional heavy tank battalions. Each division had about 15 to 17 M-24 tanks at the time.

Neat, compact & purposeful looking machine.  But 5 crew INSIDE - must've been small fellers or maybe a couple riding shotgun/yomping along behind  :)

Well, 2 sat in front, 1 in the command hatch, then 2 inside the turret to load and fire the gun, I guess! :)

Certainly a better machine than the Sherman.

Faster and lighter with the same gun as the Sherman yes?
More vulnerable as well I guess.
Better than the Firefly?naaa
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Agreed.  Sherman Firefly is a much better option.

The problem for the Chaffee, much like the basic Sherman, is that short barrel 75.  Not much use against German armor

That 17 pounder in the Firefly was the equalizer.
