Nose Bounce, Need Help (Using HOTAS Cougar)
« Reply #15 on: September 20, 2005, 02:51:01 PM »
For my Cougar, I have all the sliders up (100%) and deadband and dampening off.  I do all the settings with the Cougar.  In my AH stick file I have the following code:

CURVE /U (JOYY,-12) (JOYX,-4) (RDDR,-10)
      /M (JOYY,-8) (JOYX,-2) (RDDR,-8)
      /D (JOYY,-4) (JOYX,-1) (RDDR,-6)

This gives me thee different settings with a flip of a switch:

/M (or Dog Fight switch in the middle) is for normal flying
/U (up) is for reduced sensitivity
/D (down) is for increased sensitivity

Mine isnt nose bounce so much as rudder bounce. Ive max damping etc and nothing helps. Its so bad that I rarely use rudder in aiming, which really hurts as I know in the past it was the most important part of aiming for me. I add rudder now, and it wiggles.

In my experence....Bios settings for usb ports affects sticks actions,  Calibration deadban damping  software that comes with sticks seem to cause problems with the AH's settings for same.

New products being new dont mean its working correctly, most crap these days has (IMO) 40%+ chance of being screwed up right outa the box.  <--- sucks.....   I seem to have to calibrate my stick everytime i enter AH.

Now, if I ever, have my stick work good , I sure in the hell aint telling nobody,  Why? because i will still suck at aiming and my excuse will no longer valid.

I only miss shots and get shot down because of my joy stick malfuctioning, you got it?  good!!

Cougar VS CH fighterstick?

Comments?

I have an X45 that was a huge step up for me, but I've replaced it under warranty once working on twice in the last 15 months. I'm gonna need to step up again, and was thinking CH -- but this Cougar talk has me wondering....

Well Simaril, there are as many opinions on that as there are people who use the sticks unfortunatly. I had the same problem chosing between the two.

I haven't had any problems with my Cougar, have had it for 3 months now (or about) and I like it alot. In the future, when I get money, I will probarly mod it and this is one thing that makes the cougar stand out. It is easily modified and there are a couple of very good mods available for it. Problem is the mods are often as expensive or even twice the price of the Cougar it self.

The CH Stick have never had enough spring force for me, felt like flying with a toy. The Cougar has more then enough stick force, what anoys me there is that if you move it along X *or* Y axis the stick force is perfect, if you move it along both it is twice as stiff.

The Cougar is a bit smaller then the Combatstick = better for my small hands.

I have seen some very small microspiking along the X axis the past few days, will keep on monotoring it.

What it boils down to in the end is what you will feel more comftortable with. CH will "probarly" last longer, but don't think CH is a guarante for perfectly functioning controllers. I have a pair of USB CH pro Pedals aswell, also 3 months old. They spiked (and spike quite heavily) right out of the box. CH Tech supports tells me to buy new pots for it, they won't send me ones for free even though it is still under warranty. So that is something I am very unhappy with.

If you got questions about the Cougar I'll gladly answer them, it is not an easy choice, I know.

BTW. Everybody, I think I've mannaged to cure the nose bounce thanks to Combat trim. It all comes down to the way the game is modelled I think. So now I am flying with CT whenever needed except for low speed fights in certain planes. Finally able to hit snapshots again, now I just need to get back into my old snapshot aim.

Straffo, your settings helped me, I am trying default settings now again and I think those will suit my stick better but you definatly helped me! Thanks :)
