I was behind a couple of TXU employees this afternoon at Lowes in Hurst. They were buying 6 chainsaws along with gas cans, oil, and related accessories. They loaded them up in a TXU truck and took off.

Lowes and Home Depot don't have any portable generators either.

I thought we would go in this morning and sort of stock up on canned goods, bread, etc. I got tied up till around 10:00 or 10:30 this morning and finaly made it into town to the local Brookshires. There was at the most 2 to 3 parking spots in the entire lot that was empty. They had all checkout lines open and were stacked in line about 20 deep to a station. One grocery sore in this small town was allready closed.

does anyone here know if Katy is at risk? My 17 year old niece and her mom decided to stay after seeing the traffic jams leaving the area.

Katy floods when it rains 6 inches. They will get about 12 - 18 inches. They should leave now.

I'm the manager of IGA Foodliner in Decatur. Not sure exactly how many sqft the store is, something around 10-15,000. Matter of fact, I'm switching stores tomorrow and taking over our Jacksboro store. It's an old Gibson's we remodled and is roughly the same size, but is a much busier store without a WalMart right next door.

Thats neat. I been working in grocery stores since I started. Wanted to get out of it but I am still there, just in a different store. So much for a career change, eh?

anyone else seen those planes dropping gel from planes to absorb water along the coast? I think I heard them say the planned to drop on the center of the storm when it got closer to land, hoping to slow down winds by a little bit.

Yea, our main concern is the storms it will spawn and local supplies which are running a little thin allready.
Hard to believe that private citizens would stay in the Galveston, Houston coastal area.

Nope....not evacuating here. We are way out on the NW side of Houston anyway and this thing keeps shifting east. Still worried and being very cautious but staying put. If something very weird happens and it doesnt go the way the predictions are saying and it ends up growing rather than weakening by the time it hits the coast, we have a backup plan. Other than that, the windows are boarded, the pantry is stocked, the kegs are filled with fresh water, and the cars are in the garage......not much more to do at this point other than monitoring the weather reports and waiting.
