maybe get another level or two of metal, then go for ships

rapid fire means exactly that, ship type X has rapidfire against ship type Y, means it can fire on and kill a large amount of type y ship

How do you know if you are getting scanned?

Do you get some sort of message?, or du you need to do some research to get some sort of ESM device first?

wow soo many questions.  Just to let you guys know your main research goals should be to get small cargo and esp probes so you can start raiding.   THEN worry about deffenses.

No one of importance can/will touch you because you are under noob protection.

Nils,

If you have an enemy fleet inb you will get a red message instead of green on the "overview" screen.  If you'd been probed you will get a message like this:

If one of you are kind enough, you can teach us noobs how to probe and raid (or post a link).  When I get back from work I should have at least 4000 metal so that can give me a nice jump on stuff

mmm pizza.

ok Gun answered that one.

best weapon to use against battleships, not that you'll be seeing any for a LONG time, is a well rounded defense...lots of cannon fodder (missle launchers and small lasers), a nice amount of heavy lasers, Ions cannons (less damage than a heavy laser but shields are MUCH stronger), and guass cannons...plasma cannons will be a long way off for most of you. and of course both shield domes.
