I'm wondering if I can change the map to standard and start with what we have.

If not, I'll create a new game and we'll go with that. If that's okay.

This link has all sorts of good stuff, especially the official Diplomacy rules. I can't stress strongly enough the need to learn the rules. It shows you exactly how to issue orders correctly.

Also, when you issue your orders and click "Submit Updates", the DPJudge will tell you if you have any invalid orders. You'll then have the chance to correct them.

It could be worse. You could have started out as Austria or Italy.
