Wow, frame-3 is gunna be close too.
Axis:  91 kills, 77 objects, 117 deaths.
Allies: 108 kills, 32 objects, 63 deaths.

The 327th Steel Talons launched 14 A6M2s off C4 tasked with defending C4.
We patrolled essentially east and west along the 12 horizontal line first encountering some F4Fs then some SBDs.in sector 11-12-5 very early in the frame.  (it seems the Allies elected to place their CV at the northern edge of 10-11 or 11-11 sectors to achieve early strike advantage.)

The only visible damage to our C4 appeared to be Radar.  No smoke or flame for the entire frame.
All tolled, we repelled 4 wave attacks on our C4 and rearmed several times.  We got 5 kills + 3 assists.

Our top gun this frame was Atlatl with 2 kills and lived.
Our VimyIV experienced an instant slingshot off the fan-tail at initial launch to the flight deck with hook retracted.  I ordered him to relaunch.   Hence, the 2 deaths for him.

Congrats to the (Axis) Nightmares- 10 kills, & the Damned SE - 13 kills.
On the dark side (Allies) hehe: 332 Flying Mongrels 25 kills & the Stompin 68th - 18 kills.

Was a great FSO series and I'm proud of our 327th guys and Axis buddies.
AND retain a deep respect for our Allied opponents.

Waiting for the final scores.
Well done, Mates.

The 332nd were tasked with defending C3.  Which as eagle stated was near the 11 line.  Apparently the two target CVs were within 1.5 sectors of each other.  Daddog and sondog decided to stay above the CV with the rest of the Mongrels circling the task force in a counter clockwise direction at just beyond the radar circle.

The JBs and their escort called cons from the north as they were trying to head to A14.  Maddog and I were the closest Mongrels who attempted to help.  Those 4-5 zekes were finished off quickly by the JBs and escorts.

By this time another pair of mongrels were reporting cons directly east of our carrier.  We attempted to get back to the carrier, but by that time the kates and vals in that party were already dispatched.  Maddog and I then attempted to climb, but the high zekes and vals came in and dropped a lot of ordinance on the carrier.  It was still up after the second wave came in.  At this point a number of squads attempted to rearm, but no sooner had they got into the landing pattern  when some zekes came in from the south.  They drew a large number of CAP and others to them.  This left it open for more vals to come in from the NW.  This third run of bombers took out the carrier and cruiser.

At this point, I think we were 25 minutes into the frame and their were a whole lot of allied planes looking for a nice landing spot.  As we started to turn for A10, news of another wave from due east at wave top level came in.  Again they were killed fairly quickly.

I might mention at this point Maddog and I seemed to always be in the wrong spot at the wrong time.  We did a lot of sight seeing and watching of the emporers mighty planes flaming into the ocean.

At this point the JBs, Mongrels, AKs, and whoever else was left headed to A10 on max cruise settings.  Along the way, I encountered 3 formations of JU88s about a sector and a half away from port morseby.  My guess is they were RTB.  GrimmCAF chased after them, but I didn't have the speed to do so.

I then passed by a trio of zekes about 1/2 sector away from A10, but on the wrong side of the mountain range for help to arrive, so I scooted along as quick as possible and fortunately they didn't think a lone F4 was worth pursuing.

A number of the Mongrels reached A10 about the time someone indicated large numbers of zekes attacking A12.  They rearmed and went seeking more planes to set on fire.  Maddog and I chose to exit.

Squad Kills: 25.  Top Ace: HeavyH with 8.  Daddog with 5 (and a land), and TCE2506 with 5.  Unfortunately both HeavyH and TCE2506 crashed and are now considered MIA.

Addendum:  flying 5+ sectors in a F4F4 at max cruise takes a long time.  And when you are short on fuel and keep seeing dots, it sure does make you feel nervous.  :)

FSO team.

Well the JG44 had a decent night. We launched out of A13 and we were assigned to hit A10. 8 flights of JU-88's and the rest in Zero's as escort and scouts.

We flew a long mission to avoid contact into the target. Our scouts arrived over target about 5 min before the main body came in and they reported no CAP at our bombing alt.

As we approached the target A10 at about T+45 I saw several enemy cons low on the deck heading to the SE. They had just launched I suppose. I got a good cal on my bombsite and was lined up good for the offset bomber hanger and dropped. Killed it with a couple of 500kg bombs. As this was going on I saw a fighter lifting from the field during our drop. I switched over to my 50kg bombs and dropped on a AAA gun, and thats when I saw a mess of fighters on the NW re-arm pad and runway. Dropped 4 bombs on the re-arm pad and got 3 kills.:rofl   Whoever had the eggs dropped on your heads....sorry but war is hell.

We turned south to loop around for a second pass when we started to run into enemy planes. Our plan started to unravel at that point as everyone started to loose sight of each other while making drops.

A few of our fighters dropped to the deck and straffed some strats at the target and ended up getting killed:(   A few guys went back for a 3rd pass on the target to hit 1 fighter hanger that just refused to die. Finally got the thing and we all RTB'd back to A13.

All in all I have to say we succeded in our mission. A10 was destroyed. We took some losses but all things being equal we came out of it OK.

forHIM you beat me to an AAR. :)

Was a banner night for the 332nd Flying Mongrels. We have had some good nights before, but this was one of our best, if not our best with 25 kills to our credit.
We had 3 aces in our squad. HeavyH with 8 kills TCE2506 with 5 kills. I was taken out pretty early on. We were slotted with defending C3. With in 30 minutes some very high Zekes came in and we began to dance. More Zekes showed up and things became a bit wild. I had to dive away from one on my six, but he made the mistake of trying to dive with me. I could tell he compressed because he went off my right wing and ended up about 5k lower and slowly pulling up. I managed to shoot down one of his buddies and another landed some hits on me. My son “sondog” was damaged, but also stayed in the fight. He was the first in our squad to go down. A zeke got on his six and he could not dive quick enough due to the loss of some elevator a couple minutes prior. After a few short minutes of fighting we dispatched the rest of them. The AK’s were with us and they spotted some Kates coming in on the deck. With some direction from the AK’s I finally spotted them right below me. I dove on them and took out 2 in one pass and another a few moments later. I had some more damage by now and was low on ammo. I tried to land on the CV but my gear broke. I think one of the Kates took out a gear because it was a good landing (so I thought), but I pancaked and was done for the night. I watched from the deck of the CV as more waves came in keeping the AK’s and Mongrels busy. Unfortunately the multiple waves finally did us in and we lost our CV.

Was brief, but very exciting time for me. :) I am pretty sure most of my guys enjoyed themselves too.

I was in the escort for our JU88s to A12 (Nightmares). We got jumped by high P40s, a mix of Es and Bs. Somehow me and Cage survived and made it home with leaky fuel tanks. Deciding we could do another run providing we held onto our DTs as long as possible we went out again to escort.

I chased a p40 for a bit south of A12, and suddenly saw 2 more P40s and an F4f nearby. I dove ne to escape. I had gotten separated from Cage, and we decided to run for home.

Suddenly Cage said he had a P40 on him and was too busy trying to survive to give an immediate location. He had just given one a few mins before the engagement so I went to that area. I never found him, and he reported he was going down. So I headed for home.

As Im chuggin along I look up and there at 1.0 away directly overhead is a P40 on the same heading. Just seconds after I saw him I see tracer whizzing past me! I look back to see another P40 right behind me! Then wham!!!...Im burning.

I think I would have been overtaken before reaching A13 to land anyways...and I had to try to help Cage. So regardless I think I would have died even if I had just run for home.

C HAWKS upped 12 A6M2s to defend A14....

3 F4Fs came in early on and were dispatched.....from that point we flew in circles for an hour and a half.........I guess our mission was a success but it was the most boring FSO we ever participated in. Never saw another plane.
Any C HAWKS that died clipped a wing as we played follow the leader through the VH.....what happened?

I had set for myself T+75 as the cut off point for CAP at A14 if their CV went down early. I could not afford to think that they would leave 2 of our defenceble positions intact. I half expected a swarm of SBDs with F4F escorts to still show at one or the other. Then the bombers started showing up at our CV and I had my hands full for a few minuts. I should have moved you west then, but my Vox and text slowed to a crawl. Thought it was lag but the next morning I found that my CPU had a heat stoke. Now I'm out of the game for a while as my back-up won't run the game. I appoligise for the boardom. But at least you'll have something to do friday after next. I think I still have an NES packed in the spare room.   :cry

That is no fun Goose. Sorry to hear that you circled for an hour plus.  All I can say is at least you saw some action.  It is rare, but sometimes squads don't see any action at all. It just emphasizes the importance that Frame C.O.’s assign squads to all targets, but sometimes they are wiped out before they get to the target.

I apologize to the CHawks.  Honestly, I did not expect the CV attack to be as successful as it was, and figured that 14 would get hit pretty hard.  I shoulda made alternate plans just in case.  Course being our first attempt at cic, it was a lesson learned, and next time around will hopefully be a little better... I salute the effort tho.. takes alot to just fly around for that long.. I do want to say excellent job to the axis.... was a fun event, and cant wait for the next one up.  :aok

Yeah the thing is A14 is kinda way far across the map from anywhere even the CV group areas. So what can ya do? I had CO last frame and I had the Nighthawks take a long route over there too. Was timed just right but it did make for a long mostly boring ride. I'll the 96% destroyed of the base and 100% of the 7 on CAP there killed there too tho.

No problem Mystic. Overall the Squad Op was fun. Nice change of pace compared to the MA. Glad to have some of you frame CO's put the time into the event to make it enjoyable for all. Which side won the last squad ops?
