Looking for a Refugee Camp
« on: April 02, 2001, 11:53:00 PM »
Well, you all know the story with AW and Kesmai     Despite this having been an on-going disaster for the past several years, most of my compadres have been too cheap and/or too lazy to move on to bluer skies (the damn sheep can have the greener pastures).  But now we've reached the final act of the tragedy.  On the plus side, AW's version of the Foot & Mouth plague has finally blasted the CAF out of the unspeakable cesspool that AW has become.  It's just a damn shame this process involved several drinking buds of mine losing their jobs and their lifes' work    Good luck to them all.

Now we face an uncertain future:  AH or WB?  I'm out scouting for the best refugee camp.  Having been in WB when it went through the somewhat similar meltdown which resulted in AH, I don't trust that one.  I see a lot of familiar faces here, both from ancient AW and pre-AH WB, so I figure you guys don't trust WB either.  Plus we have a very handicapped pilot for whom AH's padlock and combat trim would be of great benefit.

So, I'm leaning toward recommending AH.  But I'd appreciate some inside scoop from my old DOS AW and WB buds.  Why you like AH the best, etc.  And if anybody still somehow remembers me with hatred, I'd appreciate a flame, too, just for old time's sake    Send comments to  jtweller@earthlink.net .  I'll be out of town for the next couple of days so don't think I'm gaffing you off if I don't reply at once.  Thanks.

And finally, salute to my old cronies in the MOL.  What side are you all flying for these days?

-Bullethead CAF, ex-WB MOL

Its going to be hard to get an unbiased oppinion in either the AGW forum, or this one.

I do suggest you all get together and do a free two week trial of Aces High.

The only word of advice is to have an open mind.  Neither AH or WB is the same as AW.  The differences will be glaring.  But just as you grew accustomed to things in AW, the way things are done in AH and WB will make more sense over time.

Hope you enjoy your visit. <S>

Deja's analysis reflects mine, each has its own unique characteristics, and its like trying suits on, see which one appeals to you.  Having been in DOS-AW starting in 1989, then moving to WB's (CK in beta), and finally, transitioning over to AH in Oct. of 1999, I liked each for what it offered.  I've never 'returned' to a previous online flight sim, so IMO, each new one offers something that keeps me on board.  AH is a fine example of offering something new and exciting release after release, and they are always making new releases.

Good luck on your search, I'm sure you'll find your nitch.

In AH, you'll have the great pleasure and priviledge of being shot down by ME. If you're just a tad bit lucky, I might allow you a d1.2 shot at the very same person.
