Something like 90% of Air to Air kills were scored on victims that never even knew they were under attack. Either they were too pre-occupied with maintaining formation or were otherwise 'engaged'. The simple truth is, in an arena with between 150 and 500 people playing together in a finite geographic area the vast majority are going to be otherwise engaged a good portion of the time. It is because of this that good communication and good SA are just as important as good flying and good gunnery in the multi-plane engagements.

If you find yourself getting cherry picked alot that's a good indication you need to work on your SA. I rarely successfully cherry pick anyone with good SA unless I make some sort of fabulous high deflection shot.

We arent talking about people who are "trying to stay alive".   I get picked all the time by flying  low and basically asking for it,  I could care less about losing a plane or flight sim "life".  I could care less about score or K/T K/S I just want to find others that like to fight it out.  This thread is about those who cheese out with the "staying alive" tactics in a flight sim game.  Of course you can stay alive by flying very timid and cherry pickn all the time.  You can even get in the top 25 in fighter rank and never fight a plane that you dont have complete superior advantage(alt, E, etc..)  All you have to do is cherry pick people who are fighting.............with someone else.  I took my spitV up on new map lake furball.  Cherry flew for 20 minutes(1 re-arm) landed 13 kills.  Only "fought" 2 of the 13 planes who caught me low and slow after swooping in on victim.  Whew!  I type to much!  By the way, this thread was meant to be a light-hearted poke at the folks who fly like that all the time. ITALLGOOD!

You say this but you almost exclusively fly a SpitV, the single best all around TnB type plane in the game. Of course you want to find people who'll fight you 1 vs. 1 you have all the advantages in that area. All you have to do is latch onto someone's tail and stay there until he's dead, knowing you can stay with virtually any manuever. Fly a plane regularly that cannot do that, that does not turn very well or pull E out of its arse then preach about the virtues of you vs. anyone willing to fight engagements regarless of enemy plane type.

I am not saying you are not good, you are, but what defines 'good' isn't necesasrily just the TnB guy that can turn on a dime. Good in my opinion is anyone who can fly his ride to its maximum potential. That is to say fly in a way that accentuates its strengths while minimizing the impact of its weaknesses. Surely, when I am in a TnB ride I think as you do, I want anyone and everyone to attempt to turn with me, I hate those that keep me at arms length, run or attempt to cherry or BnZ me, but what they are really doing is minimizing my strengths while playing to their own strength.

But, the fact remains, just because you seek single engagements and don't care about your score doesn't mean you can't TnB AND maintain good enough SA to avoid cherry pickers, it's not about score it's about being as EFFECTIVE as possible. Not everyone who has a good score/rank in fighters actually cares about it per se, it's just an incidental result of being good. ;)

Bah, I didn't (past tense :( ) try to steal kills very often. I can shoot accurately from 600 out, however. Many times I'm getting my shot at distance and someone cuts in at 200 either not realizing or not caring that I have a solution already. They start spraying wildly and I still get the shot first from 400 back over their shoulder. Maybe this is the 25k kill steal crap mentioned.
