I listen to DC101 here in Washington, especially Elliot in the morning.

He spoke of the list on Friday, but as they see it, the list is simply for awareness of songs that may not be appropriate and they didn't give it much credence. They didn't believe that it came from the corporation but that it was compiled by various program directors.

Hell... look at the list. John Lennon's "Imagine" is on it. Neal Young performed that song last night on the "Tribute to Heroes" telethon.

You should have heard Elliot. He's a bit of a wild spirit. Gawd he was pissed off on Thursday and Friday about ClearChannel forcing their morning networks to air commercials for the Don Imus morning show. He was livid. The "List" didn't even trouble him at all and he stated that the DJ's had received no instruction to follow it.

Many of these songs aren't on the DC101 playlist anyway. I'm pretty sure they played Lenny Kravitz "Fly Away" yesterday morning.

From what I heard, it's a "Recommended No-Play" list sent out to all stations.  Yes, some stations will not play those songs, lest they fear making some sort of political commentary; but many will be more sensible.

Hell, when I used to do college radio during the Gulf War, "War Pigs" topped our charts, followed closely by several choice Metallica and Slayer bits.

Yes it's true. Any disc jockey caught playing the above listed songs is arrested and shipped to Siberia  :)

Yep, I thought Neil Young did a great job with "Imagine" last night. I <S> the entire tribute.

In fact, if you even hum any of those songs, you will be shot on sight.

Well, if they are trying to erase images of airplane crashes and the like, they need to research a bit more.  They only put 1 Lynrd Skynrd song on the list, no Richie Valens, no Buddy Holly, and no Big Bopper songs.  Didn't see any Ricky Nelson songs listed either.

Oh well, just another case of people trying to decide what is good for us and what will cause us all to go into a deep depression.  Glad it is only a "recommended" list.

Let's be honest:
this is a list put out by and for radio stations that intend to propagate mindless ditties of no significance.  These tunes were on their list because they might have relevance to current events.
My advice to you is not to listen to radio stations that propagate mindless ditties.  Music should require a brain to appreciate it -- otherwise it's just to help the plants grow.

Well, frankly speaking I thought it was a joke...

After I posted that message I went home and watched "Tribute to the Heroes". I turned on the TV and saw Neil Young playing Imagine... I wonder why this song wasn't banned since 1971, it's pure communist propaganda...  ;)

I think that "Wish you were here" was the most impressive song there.

The practice of "banning" some somgs from radio playlists exists everywhere. My favourite example is banning Olga Arefieva's "Why do we need war!?" ("Na hrena nam voyna!?") on most of the musical radios in Russia. But this list is a little bit too much... Like in Soviet times here.

you notice they didn't ban The Cure "Killing an Arab"
if they did ban songs, I would think this would be the first song they banned.
here's a link that takes a look at all the other rumors floating around: http://www.snopes2.com/info/rumors.htm
