The Amityville Horror

Just picked up the new version on DVD,

Not a bad horror flick, better then most of the crap that has come out in the last few years. Not great but watchable.

I loved the original, it scared the hell out of me. Plus its based on a true story.


The extras on the DVD are interesting.

In the real house 6 people were murdered, the dude who did it was the oldest brother. The next people who bought the house didnt last a month, left one night and didnt go back for the crap.

They have interviews on the DVD with the Cheif of police for when the murders took place and the medical examiner.  Interesting stuff.

I will have to buy the original now. I don't think I have ever anything but the TV version.

It's pure BS uban legend stuff.. totally bogus. Yep, a kid shot his family there about 35 years ago. Sad thing is, no demons other than drugs were involved. The people that bought the place next bought more house than they could afford at well below market value with more paper than cash (nobody else would have the place.. who wants to own a murder house?) then defaulted on the mortgage when tax time rolled around, bolted and fabricated the tale as the excuse for the default.

The house was completely remodeled (by the bank.. it is on a valuable piece of waterfront property in a pricey upscale neighborhood) to disguise it and restore the property value. Even the street numbers were changed; all to try and dodge the hundreds of gullible gawkers that clog the neighborhood looking for the 'amityville horror'. Family that lives there now is most assuredly not haunted by anything more horrible than PIA tourists looking for the 'horror'.

I read the book years ago when I was 12 and it scared the hell out of me.  I saw the first Amityville movie and thought it was stupid...which is the way I want to leave it.
