In duel a would take a P51 with 4 guns and try to get on verticals at first, then try a low speed flight, both to play on the P47 weight.

Don't rely on ponies weight being lighter. The JugN has a brute for a power plant. Take a good look at wing charachteristics of both fighters.
Laminar flow to an eliptical wing. Another fighter I know that does well turning has an eliptical wing also....name escapes me though.

I think it would really depend on the skill of the pilots. Although I would rather be in the pony down on the deck and the P-47N above 20k.
