serious request for a biplane
« on: November 02, 2005, 02:58:45 PM »
it would be great to have a tiger moth or something modelled in ah, as a training plane, or have something like the fiats. i dunno, i would just really like to have a nice, easy flying, non-combat biplane, for training and just having a little fun. would also love to maneuver kill some lgays with a tiny lil biplane :D

For any fighter in the game Tiger Moth would basically be a stationary target in the air. How hard is it to hit a stationary target? Think of a plane you've just roped...

I'd like to see biplane fighters one day though...all this would pretty much need an additional arena like Early War MA or a theater in ToD.

What you want is the CR.42 "Falco", I-153 or Gloster Gladiator.

i wasnt really thinking of a fighter, i did mean a tiger moth. i just want a lil plane, fun and easy to fly. would be a cool addition, and a great asset for the TA. its top speed was only just over 100 mph, and minimum speed around 20 - 30 mph IIRC.

id just love to see it for the humor side too.

give it an eny of 100 or more, and people would fly it in the ma for a laugh i guarantee it! it would be hilarious just to keep looping around, out turning anything and everything, just pissing dweebs off. just thaink of it:lol

Like I said...you wouldn't be outturning anyone. Tiger Moths turn radius and speed are so tiny compared to the fighter aircraft in the game that no one would/could even turn with you.

There never would be a situation where you'd "out turn" any fighter. A fighter would just point its nose straight into you and blow you away. There would be nothing you could do to evade his guns. If you would turn as he flies at you you would cover so little distance that you'd practically be in the same spot in relation to the fighter. The fighter pilot would just do a little adjustment to his aim and press trigger.

This can be easily demonstrated in AH with  D3A and Tempest for example.

HTC did a Stearman into a special version of AH1 couple of years ago to demonstrate AH in airshows. They had a deal with Red Baron pizza which has a display team flying Stearmans. It would have been great if it could have been included into normal AH FE but for some reason (juridical reasons??) it never was. If its FM was modelled after the Red Baron display team's Stearmans it would have had 450hp engine. Even that plane would have been in a totally different performance regime than 140hp Tiger Moth.

Exactly.  Even the lowly A6M2 grossly over powers a Tiger Moth and would kill it in this fashion.  From the lowest to the highest performing WWII fighter they would all dominate it in the same manner.

That is why one of the biplane fighters that Raptor01 and I suggested would be better.  They would still out turn anything, but would have the performance to maybe actually get out of the way of the oncoming locamotive.  Plus they could shoot back which adds much to the fun of the thing.

i suggested something like this awhile ago but nobody even responded to the thread. got kinda pissed:furious  but it is nice to know that others think the same way i do.
but the only way it could work is if two different people could fly the plane. by that i meen an instructor and a student.

my idea was more radical: you couldnt fly anything untill you qualified in the tiger moth.
