Font not working...
« on: October 17, 2005, 02:08:47 PM »
I have blochschrift fur flugzeug (the LW lettering) font installed on my PC. I've had it for a while. However since the upgrade a few months back it hasn't been working. It's THERE... But in photo shop if I open a PSD file that already had it (an old skin) and try to edit, it warns me that it is substituting the font. It's in the list. It just doesn't ever WORK... What's up with this? I've removed and reinstalled it several times. Why isn't this recognizing my font??

A. Do you have some kind of suitcase program running?

B. Is the font installed under the Admin account or a user account?

A: No

B: My default login is an SU. I have an admin login for safe mode, but that's only because MS is retarded and won't let me NOT have it. I'm the only user of my machine, and all the OTHER fonts I installed work fine, dagnabbit!

What gets me, what really GETS me, is that it's listed right there in the drop down box inside photoshop!! It just substitutes Times New Roman every time I use it!

I did some checking on my system last night... I have some fonts that do the same exact thing. I could not find any reason that some don't work, but I suspect it may have something to do with selective startup... maybe?

Nope! The font works fine in OTHER applications.

What's up with PS 5.0? Is there a sub-folder you can add fonts to? I couldn't see one!

That could be... I only checked fonts at the system level. I tried PS7, btw... although I also still have 5 loaded.

Do you have Illustrator, and the font works in that okay? You could lay out all your text in that (using an image of the skin as a template) on its own layer (not the background layer) and export it to a PSD file (with layers) and then paste that layer into your existing PS5 file.

No, no Illustrator. The annoying thing is I have a skin ready to go except for the codes, which need to be in this font.

My quest continues.... Found this blurb on the 'Net while searching for answers:

"Just a warning -- dragging and dropping fonts into the font folder is not the best way to install fonts on your system. The best way is to go to your fonts folder in Windows, as directed in the above post, but instead of dragging and dropping, choose File-->Install New Fonts. Then you point to the font location, and the utility installs them for you. I used to drag and drop, but then I realized while many fonts were available in Word and other Windows applications, they weren't available to Adobe applications. Certain types of fonts need to also be installed in the fonts folders or other shared folders under the specific Adobe applications, and the Install Font Utility does this for you. A bit of wisdom from a graphic designer who's been there, done that ..."

Didn't work for me. Going to restart and see if that helps (but Xp doesn't need that, really)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

*insert slamming head into desk emoticon here*

Got it working.. tried lots of BS that didn't work, then found out that Adobe put out an update for PS 5.0. A couple actually. It seemed small, and unrelated stuff. It changed the way it scaled fonts, etc, so they didn't look jagged. So I figured what the hell, see if it works, right? Now I'm PS 5.0.2 and the font shows up! YES!!!
