Anyone read "Natural Cures THEY don't want you to know about"?

It seems to be a very hot topic in the informercial industry (where I work) these days. It talks about the FTC/FDA relationship with pharmacuetical companies. I can tell you from first hand experience, dealing with selling products that actually work for people, that the FDA/FTC ARE pretty harsh. Sure, there's some bad apples... but there's also been a whole bunch of health related "non-drug" remedies and devices that actaully worked GREAT that have been squashed.

some years ago, the FDA tried to make vitamin C a prescription drug.

Have you tried those products or do they JUST SOUND like ripoffs because they were infomercials? Really.. cause I got a friend that loved Mega Memory.

Believe it or not, Direct Marketers go legs up pretty darn quick of their products dont work.... you lose your Credit card merchant account if too many complain and your screwed.

Mos, Sandman is right (damn that scares me). Most of what this guy puts out is BS. The FTC has banned this guy from producing Infomercials.

I have read several reviews of this book from "home remedy" web sites. Nearly all of them say this book merely describes how home remedy and herbal cures cannot be certified as medicine by the FDA. The book also details alleged conspiracies between drug companies and the FDA. If you want the actual cures, herbal cocktails, and chemical remedies you have to subscribe to his (expensive) newsletter. The newsletter, of course, is heavily advertised in the book.

I'm reading it now and a lot of the health info is stuff that I have been exposed to before. Alternative health has been an interest of mine for years.

Of course, this guy didn't come up with this stuff himself. He got it from a whole bunch of natural health experts/practitioners that couldn't market it as well as him. No matter how you feel about the guy, the info is good stuff. Especially, the info on nutrition.

btw... are there any doctors on this board? I heard from a doc friend of mine that her education on nutrition was basically one 3 hour class. Anyone know different?

This book could be an excercise in natural selection.

James Randi has led a successfull campaign to have the book removed from the shelves of Walgreens. The objection is not just the the premises in the book are non-scientific BS, but that the suggestions are down-right life-and-death dangerous. Examples include the claim that using sunscreen is more dangerous than not, and recommendation not to seek treatment for cancer. Randi's latest comments are here.

Personally, go I say read it and enjoy. Reduce the number of idiots on the planet. I'll start caring when you insist that my health care plan pay for your stupidity, and therefore diminishing my legitimate coverage.
