Way back in November of 1996...
« on: November 02, 2005, 07:11:41 PM »
Well, I'll toot my own horn here regarding the squad I lead.
Not because we're the best, we usually just try to log off with a smile after squad night.
This November is our 9th year flying as an organized squad.
I'd like to thank Darks and TC3 for starting us down this road way back when.
I'd also like to thank all members past and present and of course the friends we've flown with and the enemies we've fought.
Without all of you it wouldn't have been possible.

Here's a short blurb regarding our start, just a cut-n-paste so apologies for the format.

Specialists in History

The Specialists were formed Nov 1996 when Darks asked TC3 to join a Squad. They were First CO an XO . Both were flyin way to much .. as most do when they first find this Simulator. TC3 is still one of the best I've ever seen in a 26 :) He put the A in A-26 invader LOL !!
These guys saw in there heart to take on a newbie ... he was like the 4th or 5th they asked to join. I Still don't know why they asked me to fly with them ... maybe they needed someone to make them laugh :) as i did Face plant many many times ... much to there enjoyment. I Didn't know how to fly to well.. so I went to Trainin ... The Specialists flew the P-38 ..... these 2 or 3 guys were good. People like Lees ... who joined around 12/96 and Rattlr ( he drove a spit like a mad man :) around the same time , were the guys the rest followed. I Didn't have a clue :) I Died very well for a long time. The squad grew , an we started addin some ace's from other sides an arena's. The Specialists were grownin in Name too . We were gettin the attention of the
other countries . On Squad nights we took over whole areas .
The Squad had its growin pains .. thats were our Manuel came from . We fly for fun .. not to worry about rank an things . We have a rankin system just because it shows who's been around longest :) And when u get a promotion ... it tells u the guys see u doin a good job for the Squad . One rule that was allways True for this Squad ... an we don't like rules to much ...... On Squad night , the Squad objective came first . Any other night was yours to do .. we flew together NON-Squad nights because we liked to . Never have i seen a Specialists try to pull rank on another ... for this is not our way . We are Specialists ... an that means we are Team players. Being a Specialists is more an additude than being good at this Simulator . We can teach u to fly .. as the Specialists , at 1 time or another had 5 AW Trainers in its ranks . Some have retierd from teachin . We still have 2 Active Trainers on hand
About March of 97 .. CO Darks turned control of the Squad over to Seal . As he was goin to AW2 an some of the Squad was stayin on AOL in AW4W's . Seal picked out Luft to be XO as TC3 was Retierin too . Darks officaly Retierd from the CO Spot an turned the reins of AW2 over to Golfer .. who did a bang up job of keepin the Specialists name alive on AW2 . When AW4W's came to an end .......... Seal had turned the CO Job over to Lees and had Luft stayin on as XO . In FR we started a Squad with different CO's an XO's ... just to pass the torch around . Redsk was FR CO . AOL Came crashin down ... everyone made the move to AW3 .... but some had to stay on AOL , Lees had the shortest run as CO :( as he couldn't make the switch to GameStorm . This was when the Brass of today was Promoted . DDS an RTS-6 have been with the Squad for a while . Today they run the show ... with very little help from us old guys . We moved over to let the Young blood lead us on into the next century
LOL !!! Owl is Officially our Leasion officer. His job is to keep the roster intact . We use to have a leasion officer of all ranks .. just to confusin . Seal , Selz ,Hi5 an Owl have been an are the leasion officers .
This squad is always lookin for a few good people , people with the right frame of mind to be a "Specialists" .
Ask one of the guys to tag along on 1 of our Squad nights ... if u like what u see .. u too may wear the uniform we all
luv an cherise :)

Hey Seal, remember the macro days when we all had one and flashed it
when we got a kill......

DarkS: Kill and Salute
TC3: Another kill by the Specialists Squadron

Ahhh..... days gone by Cheers!

Actually. . .

Back in the days when we used *short* macro's, my favorite was one that
I borrowed (with permission of course) from a friend and fellow
specialist (Rouge) who was forced to retire due to a neck injury . . .it
went something like this,

"Taps is heard in the distance . . ."

Early on - most of us flew 38's - once in a while we would satisfy Darks
51 craving (or worse yet a mission using those flying trashcan ju88's
) I didn't discover the 26 till about a year later (I liked the
xtra leg room and I installed a fridge to hold my Bass Ale under my seat
)

Once a Spec . . .Always a Spec

This is very cool! I joined under DARKS during AWII's beta period. I knew
that the squad had it's roots in AOL but I never really made it there. It's
great to see the whole picture laid out, now that we seem to have settled in
our new home.

Being one of the newer guys to join i just want to say -- hats off, being a
Specialist gives a person a curtian attitude that brings out the best in a
person on or off the field. You go in thinking i'm a Spec and i can fly
anything ( to bad they didnt tell the other side this) :) but really it's
friends on and off the puter and i'm glad i got the chance to join. agian
agian my hats off to you all .

I joined the SPECIALISTS in Feb 97 and flew  with them untill I moved to California in 2000. They are a EAST coast based squad and I am still working when they are flying.

So I started my own squad   I was Ditto back then in the old AW days

Congrats all guys past and present

Congrats, fellas.  I didn't realize you were those Specs from way back.  The Nomads formed around the same time, and some of the folks from that group continue to fly as well.  It's great to see that the progeny of AW4W continue to thrive in flight sims.

Thinking the same thing.  TC3, Seal and Shvr all were flying in shades as Nomads early on too.  This a result of the 38 driver's meeting over the rivers in AW and having at it in the good old days of ACM :)

Vivid memory of winging with Shvr while he was Bz and I was Cz in 38s and going down to the VoD and raising cain :)  Kinda threw em off to have us do that, talking on 1 the entire trip.

Twas a long time ago in a galaxy far away

Wow made me think ( and if you knew me-thats dangerous :) )

Most of the WidowMakers have been in the same squad since aol AW
Were WM's in aol then BlackWidows in aol after a splitup, then BlackWidows in AW on Gamestorm, then back to WidowMakers on AH

Current AH players that were in squad in mid 90's on aol AW
Teufl
4Xray
WMDie (Was DieAz in aol)
Spacer
NwBie
ROCKY
WMLute
Bilog12 ( was Palu in AW)
OHIO
Buckeye77 (Was PacMan in aol)

Amazing how you stick together after all these years

Couple others that come in and out of AH due to lack of time to play

All good peeps
I have never met any of these guys in person, but consider them all good old friends
