Stupid Royale - Off airport takeoff
« on: October 29, 2005, 12:56:32 AM »
1. Guy performs emergency landing due to fuel exhaustion.

2. Guy doesn't want airplane scratched when being put on flatbed to be taken to airport, so

3. Guy puts some gas in the tank and makes an attempt to takeoff (while being flagged to stop by the emergency crews there).

Hilarity ensues.

Ain't no such thing as an emergency takeoff, now, is there?  I would have walked the takeoff path, and hand-towed the plane into takeoff position if I had ANY concerns.

Sigh....

Yeah, saw that clip a few days ago and started wondering, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to convert stupidity into usable energy? You know, some kind of 'Stupid-A-Tron' machine."

I couldn't come up with any way to measure stupidity. I could imagine a 'Dolt' being the unit of measure, though. For example, "Man, he just contributed 3 MDs (MegaDolts) to the grid with that one!"

Burning toast would be 100 mD (milliDolt) and pouring milk into the coffee maker would be, what... 4 or 5 Dolts?

One thing I'm sure about is that the Earth has an eternal supply. Hell, we should be able to power a city the size of New York from just this BB.

It would be such a great machine, but I don't think there'd ever be a big enough funnel for it.

HHHMMMM, Seems like a good a Darwin award possibility there. If he was going to make a shortfield takeoff, why did he not have any flaps down? Dumb dumb dumb. I bet his plane has a few scratches on it now.

Had a girlfriend pour milk into my espresso machine once. It was more like 10-12 Dolts.

Speaking from personal experiece i'd say milk in a coffee maker should get 100 Dolts.

minimum.

The trees, hell.  I feel sorry for the plane, and for general aviation in general.

1. There are a limited number of pre 90s planes in the world.  Everything that came after the big liability freeze has been priced astronomically out of proportion against the older planes, adjusting for inflation, lawyers, and more.

2. This will be another percentage point in some statistic about the dangers of GA that anti-General Aviation protesters like Skylune (a guy on Usenet) love to use.

3. Insurance prices will go up a little for everyone.

4. Someone who might have gone into aviation might see the footage and decide against getting their pilots license, better chance of that than someone being inspired to get their certificate, that's for sure.

He's a loser, but we all lose.
