Hi,Im running on a Hewlett Packerd Pavilion Desktop,512 MB DDR SDRAM,160GB 7200RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive.My problem is that I dont know how to configure my headset so I can use vox.I went to control panel and clicked test hardware and when I speak into it,nothing happens.I plug my red wire that says mic into the mic plug in the back of my tower and I plugged the black plug that has a headset symbol into the outlet in the back of the tower that has a speaker symbol on it.What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this problem? Thanks for all who help.

Check that you Microphone volume (in the volume control) is full up and muted under Playback but NOT muted in Recording. (Recording vs Playback can be found under Options>Properties)

I adjusted the microphone in volume controls so when I make a noise in my mic I hear it in my speakers but other p[layers dont hear it.

Mute the mic in Playback so that you can't hear it, then unmute it in Recording so that other people can.

When you bring up the volume control, it's automatically on Playback. Mute that one, then go to Options>Properties and use the droplist to change to Recording. Make sure Microphone is checked in the list and hit OK. Bring the mic slider all the way up and make sure the Mute box is unchecked.

How do I mute the playback,when I pressproperties in volume control it already has playback bubbled in,what do I do from there,can someoine explain it step by step please?

Another thing i would do is run the DxDiag test.

Go to Windows start menu, bring up the command line with "Run". Type DxDiag.

Now in DxDiag, go to "network" and click on 'Direct Play Voice Otions'. This takes you through testing your mic in windows. If it works there, youre good to go ingame and adjust the otions there.

To test the mic ingame, open radio and type your name in the last pulldown box (Voice channel). Now hit enter. If you press 'T' while talking, you should hear your own voice now.

Or up on a field where theres friendlies around and ask for a 'radiocheck' over range (hold F12 while talking). If you get a 5 by 5 back, it means youre transmitting loud and clear.

first make sure you sound card is full-duplex. IF it aint, your screwed.

Here is my problem now,I passed the Dx Diag test with my mic but when Im in the tower in game I can press F12 when I pull up the chat box ,but when I start to fly,I cant press it any more...What is the problem?

If the text box is open, none of the keyboard buttons register for anything BUT the text box. If you map a button on your joystick to range vox and push it while the text box is up, it will work.

That's why people close the text box and say "radio check" with other people near them. That way, if others hear you, they can tell you because it doesn't work with the text box up.
