CDT now 80% off sorties
« on: October 30, 2005, 03:08:56 AM »
80% off my sorties ends up with CTD.

I turned off error reporting, cos it is useles for AH.

Now the CTD is like this. Game freezes for 1-2 second, sounds still sound and then BANG, im at desktop.

I have disconnected TIR, gameport joystick & rudder pedals, disabled SB AUDIG2 and tested the MOBO sound.

Running the nvidia driver 6.14.0010.7772 as reported with dxdiag. I guess this is the one Skuzy recomends.

I have tried disabling antivirus.

Flying with 128 textures, all graphic setting on minimum, everything disabled.

Re-installing windows and the game. Deleting chaches.

Now I run memtest over night. It did find 5 errors in 8 hours. (test 5 what ever that means) So I will now try to play with 256MB, removing half the RAM.

Any ideas what tests etc. I should run ?

And why does the crash seem to come just as I am about to land or open fire :cry

If you are getting any errors from a memtest, then you definately have, either a bad RAM stick, or the motherboard is damaged.

Now, if you are running an NVidia FX5000 series, or older, you should be using the 61.77 drivers from NVidia.  You will have problems if you use a newer driver for anything other than an FX6000 (or newer) video card.

Picked my computer apart, and re-installed all, and I managed to install wrong NVIDIA drivers :huh

Doh, oh well. If it now works with 61.77 im happy

Drop me the output from DXDIAG and I'll see if anything sticks out.

But, if you have memory problems, there is not much that can be done about it, from our side.

After installing the NVidia drivers, I forgot to disable the MOBO sound card and activate the SoundBlaseter.

Now I have flown maybe 10 sorties, with no crash :)

I hope this has fixed it.

Thx

I would do this: Remove half your ram (I assume you only have 2 sticks). Run the mem test again over night. Note the results. Swap the ram. Test it again on the other stick. Find if one or both of them return errors. You should, in theory, never get ram errors ever. It means a mobo or a ram related problem.

By doing this you can narrow down the problem to maybe just 1 stick of ram, and replace that if possible.

Thx, If it crash again, I do that.

Now it looks like all is fine, with correct Nvidia drivers and sound blaster sound card.
