Author Topic: Ki-84 fuel damage bug (Read 370 times)

When a Ki-84 gets main fuselage fuel damage two bugs happen:

1) No fuel vapor trail

2) All the fuel in all the tanks drain out. It doesn't matter how much you have in the wing tanks or the other tanks. If you damage the fuselage fuel, they all drain out.

This does not occur if you damage the other tanks, They have fuel vapor trails and only drain the damaged tank.

Im not sure, but did the Ki-84 had self-closing tanks? Maybe all the tanks were connected so everything drained out?

I would think that the wing tanks would have pumped into the main tank. If the main tank is leaking, then any and all fuel pumped into it might also be lost. You might try manually selecting each tank, other than the main, when that happens. It might get you home.

Thanks fo r the replies, but they don 't work. As soon as the main fule is one, the auto selector switches to the other tanks, but they all drain out in a couple of minutes.

I think it's just an oversight, especially since there's no vapor trail from the main tank.

I don't have any info on how the fuel system works on the KI 84 but what seems to be the standard should apply here. Majority of all the aircraft I've ever worked on would do just what your saying which is correct as far as the fuel draining.

Most systems have a one way check valve which will keep fuel from transfering out to tanks such as the wings or other feed tanks. This will keep other tanks from draining if a wing tank or aux tank gets hit. Any tank connected to the main will drain if the main is damaged since it is supplying the main and the main is supplying the engine.

The only exception to outward transfers from particular tanks is aircraft that have the ability to transfer fuel outwards for wing imbalances, cg offsets and fuel cooling.

Yes, the Ki-84 had self sealing tanks. All later Japanese aircraft did.
