P-51D 44-13303 4th FG First Skin
« on: November 06, 2005, 01:53:11 PM »
This is the P-51D Mustang of Major James Goodson, of the 336th FS of the 4th FG. circa June 6 through the 20th 1944.  This plane was lost on a straffing run on June 20, 1944.  Major Goodson was considered by some to be the "King of the Strafers".

I would appreciate any advice and comments on this my first skin attempt.

Things that I know need done.
1. weathering
2. paint chipping
3. Cannot figure out how to "cloud" different panels..

Thanks to all who have answered my questions and take the time to comment on these screens.

Cheers.

Yeah it is.  Not coming out too well in the JPGs.

Do you save the BMP as 256 color or 512?  If 512, how do you do that with Photoshop as it will only let me save as 16 bit and 24 bit.

Thanks

bmp is saved at 256, 8 bit. I don't know why Adobe won't let you save at 256.

Sweet thanks SkyChimp.:aok

I redid the "aluminum texture" on the skin and will repost another pic.  Also I realized I had forgotten to do some of the gas caps and other items which help flesh the skin out.

Come on guys, critical comments are very welcome.  I am trying to learn here.

Well I have been working on this off and on today.  Its my first skin and my favorite P-51D.

Its supposed to look like this. :)

Here is an updated look at the skin.

Things left to do.
1. Weathering
2. Dirt and Oil
3. Stencil review

I would appreaciate any comments concerning anything you see in error.
