LW or 3DSMax...
« on: August 20, 2000, 02:16:00 PM »
I am interested in taking my current career as Photoshop operator(screenprinting color-separations)into the 3-D realm of design.
My initial foray for info has me at a choice between what most say are the 2 leading 3-D programs,LW6 and 3DSMax.
Any thoughts from those in the know would be greatly appreciated?Hmmm-what are AH models created in? Superfly?

By-Tor, well i know Lightwave 6 & 3dsMAX 3.1 very good
(working with MAX at work). Both are very strong 3D applications.
You can't say who is better, both have theire strenght & weakness.
We using both, Lightwave 3D 6.0 and 3dsMAX 3.1 at work.
But if you planing to work in the games developing scene, i would
suggest to learn MAX. Soon there will come GMAX, read this
article about: http://www.stomped.com/published/jcal9663830321.html

I use MAX mainly for animating Humans & Animals with the
MaxBones system. But you can do same in LW, especially with
LW6.0 & Messiah plugin. Both Apps are also good for modelling.
I read somewhere HTC using Multigen for modelling.

Another question is the Price ($), MAX cost's aprox twice then LW.

By-Tor if you have more questions you can write me an email.

greetings

LOL Vulcan,
Looking back at my topic heading,I suppose I'd have concluded the same

Thx for the info GhostFT, and I will indeed take you up on the offer of answering some questions that I'm sure will arise as I dig deeper into the 3-D realm.Yes,Gmax looks very promising indeed.Great way to get some training while saving up for the big 1!

     Cheers,
