Jesse Jackson will save us all from war
« Reply #30 on: September 28, 2001, 02:00:00 PM »
Well,..seems most people are looking at all this with the perspective of how we interact.   I saw part of a documentary this morning that was an interview with a captured Taliban person.  Went something like this (for the sake of my fingers I = Interviwer and R = Respondent);

I: If you were not captured, how would this interview be different?
R: I would kill you.
(In the background are a number of other captured Talibans and they are laughing at this)
I: Why?
R: Because you are American.
I: Do you feel that way about others?
R: No, it is our religious duty.
I: What about children?
R: If they are American and we are commanded by our holy leaders, then they shall die.
I: So age is not an issue,.you just have to be American?
R: Yes.
I: Would you strap a bomb to yourself and walk into a classroom of 5 year old Americans and detonate it?
R: Yes.  This is our way.  Americans are the great satan of this world.  We will not know peace until you are all dead.
I: And you teach your children this?
R: Yes, as my father taught me.
(Again, the backgound Talibans are cheering and laughing)

At this point the reviewer states, "That is a bit of a show stopper, I really cannot think of a way to respond to that".

This was a freelance gentleman, who recorded this over a year ago.  No one was interested in the documentary until the the recent events unfolded.

My point being, you cannot sit back and look at this situation from the perspective you may have been raised with.  To win this, we have to first understand the enemy.  In this documentary it is quite apparent they have every intention of killing Americans in any way they can, even by killing themselves in the process.  Thier children are being taught this from day one.
we, in most of the free world, see killing children as intolerable, yet these children of the Taliban will grow up to be the next mass killers.
Our ethics and morality will get in our way of doing the most unthinkable thing that must be done.
This will be our downfall.  I see the very symptoms of it on this board already.

Am I proposing genocide?  No, I am not proposing anything, but to take a look inside and see if you have the stomach for what must be done.
Some would say, "By killing them in this manner, you lower yourself to thier level".  Well, guess what?  If we do not get to thier level they will kill us.

No matter what I say, or what others say, there is a task at hand.  One that is not going to be pretty.  One that is not going to be done for years.  All we need to know is, can we do it?  Can we commit to what may be the bloodiest, ugliest war ever fought on this planet?
It may not be as bad as I make it sound, but that is the question to be answered.

My vote?  Go for it.

Posted this in another thread:

A fresh perspective of things back then. Please read it. http://www.twomorrows.com/kirby/articles/27ww2.html

He ends his story with this note, somewhat relevant to current events:

"It was a whole nutty affair. War itself is a nutty affair, but somehow I think it may get worse. Look at Russia and Afghanistan. The Russians are a great big power and she goes down over Afghanistan and kicks the sh*t out of their people, but then she runs like hell. Why? The Afghanis have one thing that the Russians haven’t got—they like to die. That is part of their religion and they are very religious. The Russians had never run up against that and I can tell you that the war in Europe would have been very different if the Germans were like that. A guy from another culture wouldn’t know what to do. The Russians didn’t know what to do. I mean, what do you do when you fight an enemy who has a martyr complex? I myself, as a General, if I came up against a culture that was completely different than my own, I would investigate it thoroughly. I don’t believe that the Russians were that thorough with the Afghani and this was their fatal mistake.

They assumed they just were peasant people and they could just mow over them with their high technology. The Afghani had some technology and I imagine that plenty of them got killed by what the Russians threw at them, but they held their line and they held the Russians back. There were plenty of dead soldiers around—thousands—and it was these farmers and peasants who were doing most of the damage.

Soon, even our technology will not protect us. Our opponents will have a different mind and we will find it very difficult to understand them. The Russians are very much like us and our soldiers have a lot in common. Can either army afford the odds of losing thousands and thousands on a war? We will have to find another way to settle our differences. It is in that way that I would say that war is senseless."

I find these "should we do it" posts Baffling.  When someone is beating the toejam out of you, the fight has already started.  Its time to start swinging back.

Yep, but it cuts both ways, don't ASSume the following comments to be unpatriotic, it's just some food for thought.  ;)

Now that the hysteria has died down a bit how many of you guys have attempted to look at the US from the Arabs/Muslims point of view?

We support corrupt governments in the Middle East, we supply arms to whoever we view as the 'lesser' evil in internal conflicts, we give Israel massive economic and military suppport which they use to keep the Palistinians down.

It's easy to see why some of them hate and attack us, keep an animal penned up, starve it, treat it with cruelty and more than likely the damn thing will bite the toejam out of you if it gets the opportunity.

Buhdman, I agree absolutely.

Weazel, those are very good points, and very true. This assumption that the terrorists hate Americans "because we are free" or other such nonsense is complete BS. It's a matter of our crimes against them. And to say that we haven't done anything that could be seen as a crime is a lie, pure and simple. Not to put this nation down, we often do good things - but this "they are savages with no reasonable cause for hate..." disgusts me. It smacks of this country's typical and historical arrogance.

Did bin Laden stand up one day and say "I hate freedom! Let's hit the US!"?
I don't think so...

Would Israel even exist without the support in arms and money given from the US?

How long after the 1947 UN partition would they have lasted? 1948-49, 1956, 1967, 1973-74,... would Israel have survived them all standing alone?

Now I'm not a large fan of Israel by any means... but clearly they'd have long since been wiped out... subjected to genocide once again.. had we not supported them.

So, that is our crime?

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Osama hates the USA because we helped Saudi Arabia repulse the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in the Gulf War. He saw the US troops who helped save his country as infidel invaders of the holies Islamic land, where Mecca and Medina are.

Anyway Im really pissed off at the "Islamic" leadership ,if such a thing exists, for not condeming this stuff. Are there any influential Muslem clerics who oppose this? Or are they all lunatics who think like terrorists. Why don't they speak out?

Ummmm... you ever wonder why he was exiled from Saudi Arabia?  Islamic leadership has condemned him... just not the doorknobs in charge of Afghanistan.
