Get LEXUS (TM) IS-350

Price: ~ $35,000
Power: V-6 engine. 305 hp @ 6400 RPM, 277 torque lb/ft @ 4800 RPM
Performance: 0-60mph @ 5.6 secs
Fuel Efficiency: 21 city, 28 highway

450 hp / 880 lb. ft. Tq.  with box on lev. 6

gets 15mpg city 21 hwy (if I keep it at 75 mph)

I bought a '98 323i Convertable. It's a hell of a lot of fun, though it's certainly no hot-rod. It's more than enough car to get me into trouble.

I drive a 99 528i, not  that it means anything to this...but its a great and reliable car, it was 39grand base in 99. And new BMW designs make me cry :(

and I can get it to 60 mph in 6 seconds.

not sure on my HP, pretty sure its a 3.0 liter v6 though.

193 HP.  And I agree about the new designs BMW is putting out...:furious   however if you can overlook stlye for reliability and mid to high range-performance, then looks are an after thought.

I got the IS-250, instead of the 350, just for the gas mileage (24/32).  My go-fast days are behind me, but I wanted excellent braking and handling and the IS does that very well.  For a 3700 pound car it feels very nimble.

I looked the the BMW330 first, but the IS won in the end due to the interior more than anything else.  And I preferred the handling of the IS versus the BMW.  Both cars feel like they are carved out of a brick.  Very solid.

And the "start" engine button in the IS, is just flat out sexy.  The only option I went for are the 18 inch wheels.

I've not drove a Lexus since test driving various brands of cars in 2000, but IMO the Lexus model I drove in 2000 (GS 300) didn't even come close to the corner handling that BMW 3 series had. Maybe they're caught up? Dunno. I'd never say a bad thing about Lexus overall, extremely good quality, extremely reliable.
