Rarebear, as impressive as it is, doesn't represent a military aircraft.  It certainly hasn't been built in any substantial quantity.  Military-spec F8F's were known more for their outstanding climbing ability than for maximum true level speed.

Oh, the Do335, is still the fastes twin engine, non jet powered plan in the world. Maybe im not coreckt but i think it is still so.

Its possible that a Merlin powered Twin Mustang could have a slight edge
