Our 14 1/2 year old lab. Retired from hunting at age 8, although I regretted doing so with such a keen sense like this dog had, I wanted a family dog that would help "raise my kids" if you know what I mean.  He's in great shape with exception of some arthritis in his front leg elbows.

He was dumped off at a pet store (that wasn't able to handle selling, caring for puppies) with his brothers and sisters in 1991. I happened to be in the pet store that day getting feeder fish for my arrowanna.  These puppies were enroute to the human society where they'd be sold in 6 days or put down. One in particular kept following me around the store, as they'd let all the puppies out of their temporary "box" home.  I took this pup home and named him "Solomon" after a wise jewish king. His nickname "Sol" also stands for "S**t Outta Luck.  He still follows me around the house, outside, just as he did when he was a pup.

He doesn't fetch my beers, but he does teach my children to care for, love and respect animals.

I had the pleasure back in the mid 80's to ride along one winter with a dog trainer. Went down to Pensacola & trained hard for 6 weeks then started hitting the retriever field trials.

I actually got to watch River Oaks Corky, one of the greatest black labs ever run.
That night we were sitting around the campground around a fire, bs'ing & relaxing. I saw Corkys owner turn to him & told him to go get me a beer.

The dog  gets up, goes inside the RV, comes back with a beer. There was no one else inside the RV. Corky drops the beer in his hand, and he swears. Hands the beer back to corky. Not one of my Wifes beers, silly, one of MINE!

Corky plods back to the RV, comes back 1 min later with the correct brand.

True story

BTW VERY nice Golden Goaly!

I said many, not all..
"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion;
respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life." - Chief Tecumseh
