Another good book Hang..

"The Samarui the Mountie and the Cowboy"

It is a book written in '92 that studies the myths that socialist countries gun control laws in the U.S. would reduce crime and homicide here..

Very interesting and well documented and footnoted... it was written back when the homicide rate here was at allmost 10 per 100k and our crime rate was higher than say.... limeyland... and, it had some interesting predictions and conclusions.  This was before the widespread concealed carry laws...

Anyway.. read the last chapter first.   Some interesting points are suicide should be lumped in with homicide (both are deaths and failures of society)..  that many of Americas homicides are self defense and that womens groups and others claim that fully 80% of females committing homicides are really self defense..  Also..  that 81% of all "good samaritans" that intervene in attacks by criminals on their fellow men are.... gun owners...  that non gun owners tend to shirkl their responsibility because they feel that they have enpowered their government to take care of everyone so.... they are absolved from getting involved..

Interesting book with a lot of insight that has become fact 15 years later.

read the last chapter first.  It is so prophetic that it really puts the rest of the book in perspective and makes his data seem even more relevant and his methodology even more sound.   In many ways he is even more thourough than Lott.

I think he proves that no person who studies gun control deeply and honestly enough can come to the conclussion that it is a good idea (for America?  for the world?)

I think that is why you find all of the gun control nuts to be so badly informed about firearms.

Beats me why you guys need a book, when your minds are already made up.

same reason you read beet... we do it to reinforce what we want to believe..

We would read studies by the anti gun crowd but they are so obviously false and poorly done that it is not worth it.   (belesailes "the arming of amercia"  or whatever it was called)

And why is that?  wellllllll..... because anyone who does a serious study ends up on our side anyway. No matter what side they started on.

Well that's an honest enough answer. I can't argue with that.   But speaking for myself, the books I've just ordered are voiced from opposite ends of the spectrum, and therefore cannot be construed as reinforcing what I want to believe. :)

slightly different.... there is no real data to study in your books (it is theory and speculation)and there are two daimetricaly opossed groups of scientist trying to predict what will happen decades into the future.... allways a silly exercise in mental masterbation.

With gun control... you can't really get both sides since only the people who advocate gun rights (even if they originaly didn't) have a real voice... the gun control nuts have no case and resort to "feelings" and myth.   Their works are unprofessional and undocumented and rarely worth a read.

When an anti gun work with any hint of respectability is released it is showered with awards and praise and hailed by all of the socialist press as a great work.... the glee lasts about a month or so before the work is proven to be total fabrication and the author is discredited (the arming of america by bellisiles).

If a pro gun control nut really does honest and intensive research he ends up on our side anyway where he is ostracised and vilified by former friends and fellow commies.

no gun control myth ever survives scrutiny.
