Bah! They gave the 109E a nice belly piece in the new modeling, but they still stretch the left/right sides on the 109F! What gives?

Also wings underside are off by half a pixel in alignment, so no matter what you do you're going to be off by half a pixel where they meet, in the end.

All the 109s underside wings are off by a 1/2 pixel. The K cowling top and sides are stretched bad as well.

But overall, compared to other games and the old Ah skins they are fairly straight forward.

The stretching and offests are easy enough to deal with, for example look at the defaults you will see how these issues are obscured enough not to draw attention.

Well that sucks totally.. I have been doing 109E skins so far (for the 109s I mean) and it's wonderful! Aside from the super small chin radiator, there is very little stretching! The pixels line up perfectly left/right, as well.

How can they make such a nice new 109E skin layout and then many really crappy layouts for all the other 109s?? Did they recycle the pre-2.06 skin maps? Or what?

You should have seen the 190s before they were fixed. The A-5 and A-8 shared the same wings. The left wings on both were mis-aligned by about 3 1/2 pixels giving the appearence that the left wing was 'smaller'.

The 109s have gotten progressively better since AH1 where everything was stretched and mirrored. Overall the errors are small with current skins. Il2 has issues, some even worse then what you find on the current 109s.

Personally, I dislike the belly patch on the new 109E.  This is because it's at a different scale from the rest of the fuselage pieces.  1 pixel on the belly patch turns out to be about 1.5-2 times as wide as 1 pixel on the fuselage sides.  This makes its panel lines always look misaligned and too wide.  It would have been better, IMHO, to have done without it if it could not have been made to the same scale as the rest of the fuselage.  On the belly, which is always 1 color, it's no biggie that the sides get stretched down there.  If we have to have separate pieces, I'd rather have one for the top, to make camo color divisions flow over the top better.  Of course, it would have to be at the same scale as the fuselage sides.

I have several other minor nits to pick with the new 109s in general.  However, I must say they're all MUCH better than the originals.  It's just a shame that in the E and F can't carry bombs, despite having bomb racks on the skins and these showing up in the skin viewer (not to mention the F's partial gondolas).

I agree with the belly patch being out of scale -- that's just irritating.

However, it let me really work on the streaking/staining on my 109s as I could continue down past the wings a bit. Also it doesn't stretch (I hate stretching).

I'm just glad that the upper rear fuselage on the E no longer folds/overlaps to form the camoflague. You couldn't even do a low-back camoflague scheme because this screwed you over.
