Hmmmm....p51  entered  in  1944.....by that time war almost over germany, yeah if it wasnt for p51 we'd lost the war for sure, lol:)

the p-47 had lower losses than the mustang and it shot down more planes and destroyed more stuff on the ground. the thunderbolt won the FIGHTER war for the americans, the mustang stole the glory. the true heros were the b24s, b,17s, b26s, b25s, etc.

If anything won or had the largest part in winning WW2 it was probabily the GMC CCKW 353 -  2.5 Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck.

Supplied to EVERY Allied Army - they hauled fuel, ammunition, rations, troops, equipment, etc. without which any modern battle would have been impossible.

P-47's in ETO ww2 1942-1945

No. of Sorties: 423,435
AC lost in combat: 3,077
Enemy AC destroyed in air: 3,084
Enemy AC destroyed on ground: 3,202

P-51's in TWO ww2 1942-1945

No. of Sorties: 213,873
AC lost in combat: 2,520
Enemy AC destroyed in air: 4,950
Enemy AC destroyed on ground : 4,131

So the P-51 (from the P-51A to the P-51D) destroyed almost 2,000 more aircraft with half as many missions as the P-47, though in this book I'm getting these stats from the P-47 also dropped 113,963 TONS of bombs well the P-51s  were only 5,668 tons.... Now you can see where there roles settled later in the war.

Those stats tell me if you wanted a much better chance of survival, you flew a P-47 :) Over double the sorties with only about 500 more combat losses? :O
